About the Department




This position serves as the Region IV Election Supervisor in Nome.  The regional supervisor is a working member of the senior management team for the Division of Elections and is responsible for the comprehensive planning, coordination, administration and election management functions of the Region IV Office. 

The Region IV Election supervisor currently oversees state and federal elections for 107 precincts located throughout House Districts 37 - 40 and ensures all voting sites within the regional office jurisdiction receive election equipment, ballots and supplies and that locations are adequately staffed for conducting elections. Materials and equipment for Region IV precincts will be shipped out of Anchorage.

The regional supervisor develops and conducts training for full-time, temporary staff, election workers, and regional board members each election cycle. Public speaking is required.  

The regional supervisor position contributes to the revising of forms, policies and procedures and participates in reviewing statutes and regulations and the impacts of legislation. 

Due to the high-profile nature of conducting elections, it is critical that work is completed within statutory deadlines. Interpretation and application of federal and state laws and policies is crucial.

This position is located at 214 Front Street, Suite 130, in the Sitnasuak Building, Nome, AK.  The work environment is friendly, professional, and collaborative, with regular interaction with colleagues, municipal clerks, other state agencies, and the public.


A successful applicant will address the following competencies in their application package:


 Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.  This includes the ability to maintain consistent formatting conventions while editing documents, the ability to create and utilize information saved across multiple spreadsheets and the ability to “merge” information from spreadsheets into Word documents/forms.

 Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from various backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to individual differences.

Position Duties

Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science or equivalent degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field from a four-year undergraduate post-secondary institution.

 Substitution: Three years’ experience as a supervisor in an agency with multifaceted operations. The experience generally includes general administrative activities such as employee supervision, procurement, inventory, and supply distribution.

  OR

Two years’ experience in elections.
