Role description:
We’re looking for a Senior Fire Protection – Special Hazards SME (Subject Matter Expert) with extensive experience in delivering chemical and industrial plants projects to join our Places Design & Engineering Group.
You will work as part of a muti-disciplinary team, leading the fire protection discipline of multiple concurrent projects through pursuit, proposal, design, and construction phases.

- Automotive Industrial Facilities
- Lithium Ion Battery Manufacturing Facilities
- Lithium Ion Bus/Municipal Vehicle charging and Maintenance Facilities
- AFFF Foam Transition in Industrial and chemical plants
- Multi Platform Data Centres including site design
- Flammable Liquid Warehouses
- Railroad Mobility Systems
- High Tech Aerospace Manufacturing and Design Facility’s
- Federal Government Projects
- Risk Analysis and Insurability Studies
Role accountabilities:
- Lead design teams and mentor junior staff to develop construction-ready design packages of drawings and specifications with inter-discipline coordination.
- Lead the Arcadis AFFF Foam Transition Program including developing new business and clients.
- Have project leadership level of experience in fire alarm, smoke control, fire suppression, Vesda and other related design Knowledge of industry standards, building codes, and safety standards such as FM Global NFPA, NEC, NESC, UL, UFC and UFGS.
- Knowledge of insurance processes, client insurability and mitigation of risk utilizing engineered solutions based on noted industry standards
- Fluency in design and modeling software (Revit, Autodesk Construction Cloud, AutoCAD, Hydra CAD, Navisworks).
- Travel to project sites for engineering site surveys, data collection for fire protection studies, and collaboration with clients’ team members and business development.
- Design facilities such as industrial, commercial, process (water, sanitary wastewater, industrial wastewater, fuel systems), EV assembly plants, Lithium Ion Battery Plants, data centers, among others.
- Develop budgets, proposals, schedules, project plans and staffing plans
- Review project design, documentation, cost estimates and other materials to ensure compliance with the project scope
- Establish individual discipline design budgets for all assigned projects
- Include life safety code analysis and drawing reviews.
- Ensure projects are within budgets, completed on schedule and meet or exceed professional standards of work
- Contribute technically to projects in areas where qualified in support of work prepared by the respective disciplines
- Coordinate and facilitate quality control/coordination reviews for all assigned projects
- Identify, qualify and pursue potential clients and project opportunities
- Develop a network of professional relationships within industrial and chemical clients.
Qualifications & Experience:
- United States citizenship.
- BS in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering with 10 years’ minimum experience in consulting engineering performing facility design.
- Fire Protection Professional Engineering (PE) Licensure in United States.
- Professional Engineering Licensure in United States
- Experience producing IFC design packages for federal agency facilities.
- Excellent presentation and communications skills.
- Strong Business Development skills.

We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $113,933 - $193,686. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
