Position Summary
The purpose of the Aquatics Program Coordinator is to support the operations of the swim lesson program by supervising swim instructors and ensuring effective instruction and safety standards. Responsibilities include assisting in scheduling lessons, planning programs, communicating, record-keeping, and helping maintain a positive and organized aquatic environment. This position is required to adhere to all Waukegan Park District (District) policies and procedures.
Essential Functions

Creates, implements, maintains, distributes, and communicates all swim lesson information as needed to participants and instructors including, but not limited to, class rosters, lesson plans, report cards, mid-session progress reports, and evaluations.

Assists in scheduling all private and semi-private swim lesson schedules.

Reviews swim lesson evaluations and surveys of programs and instructors and reports results and recommendations to supervisor.

Communicates with youth participants’ parents and responds to their inquiries and needs with promptness and professionalism.

Assists in the recruitment and selection of swim instructors.

Plans, organizes, implements, and oversees swim instructor training workshops, in-service workshops, and evaluations for swim instructors.

Answers customer inquiries or directs to appropriate staff as necessary.

Inspects all safety and swim lesson equipment to ensure proper working conditions.

Maintains safety and swim lesson supplies and equipment.

Implements developmentally appropriate activities that enhance the skills and abilities of the participants.

Assumes instructional responsibilities for swim lessons when required.

Works special events as needed.

Assists staff in the performance of their duties.

Works evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

Conducts duties adhering to all safety requirements.

Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor to support the department or the District.
Qualifications
Age:
-
16 years and older.
Education
-
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
Experience
-
Minimum two (2) years experience swim instruction preferred
-
Minimum two (2) years experience working with children preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
-
Microsoft Office experience in Excel/Word/Outlook

Water Safety Instructor standards
-
Swim confidently maintaining buoyancy and control using standard swimming strokes
-
Teach swimming techniques that adapt to all age groups
-
Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
-
Communicate effectively through listening, speaking, writing, and non-verbal cues
-
Demonstrates initiative and responsibility
-
Manage workload and hours with minimal direction

Make timely and effective decisions

Prioritize work efficiently and effectively

Follow procedures to obtain appropriate results

Develop positive rapport with interpersonal departments, public, vendors, contractors, media, and community groups

Identify problems or challenges and develop and implement solutions

Perform basic mathematical calculations. Compute rate, ratio and percentage

Operate job related equipment
License/Certification

Water Safety Instructor certification preferred
-
First Aid/CPR/AED certification required within one (1) year of hire date

Hours:
-
Tuesday - Friday 3:30pm-8:30pm & Saturday 8:30am-1:30pm. Hours will fluctuate inbetween swim lesson sessions.
