Work Shift

Job Summary:


Supervises all biomedical functions within the assigned WellStar facility or facilities, including budget development and control, personnel management, clinical project management, clinical technology planning, medical device and system networking and EMR integration, regulatory compliance and customer relations. Reports to the Executive Director, Biomedical Engineering.


Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:


Assigns Department staff to work orders and other tasks as determined by priority of need and responds to the need for assignment of technician to provide shared services support of other WellStar facilities. Ensures documentation of all repair, maintenance, installation and other Department and facility biomedical activity in a timely fashion using the Departments equipment management software and other mechanisms as needed. When necessary, performs technical functions as appropriate in the capacity of a working supervisor. Maintains medical equipment database.
Maintains positive customer relations through active marketing program which assesses customer satisfaction on a regular basis using standardized Department surveys, routine visits to user departments and other tools. Implements personnel, program and other changes to respond to customer feedback. Acts in the capacity of Executive Director, Biomedical Engineering, when necessary, representing the Department at facility and WellStar functions.
Supervises the Biomedical Engineering staff at multiple, assigned facilities, evaluating employees work performance on a timely basis, assessing and then assisting in the training needs of employees, initiates other WellStar Personnel Policies and Procedures as necessary, including disciplinary action.
Assists with development and implementation of the budgets and strategic plans of the Biomedical Engineering programs within assigned facilitates by formulating inventory based budgets with service Directors, coordinating financial targets with System accounting staff and assessing facility specific strategic biomedical needs.
Performs the functions of the Biomedical Engineering Department as delineated in the Medical Equipment Management Program Policies and Procedures manual.
Coordinates with WellStar IT in support of planning, installation and servicing networked medical devices and systems.
Maintains knowledge of current regulations and standards for biomedical equipment, technology developments, System/facility/Department quality and performance improvement efforts, and changing business and management strategies and techniques. Uses this knowledge in the daily effort within the Department.
Participates and leads medical equipment deployments and projects.
Prepares and presents instructional material and conducts training in the techniques and methods of operation, problem diagnosis, and safe operation of medical systems for physicians, nurses and allied health personnel.
Participates with numerous directorates (Construction, Facilities Engineering, Information Technology, Infection Prevention, Safety, Accounting, Supply Chain and others) on related projects.


Required Minimum Education:

  • Bachelors Engineering or Bachelors Engineering Mechanics or Bachelors Other


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):


All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • CBET - Cert Biomed Engineering Tech-Preferred

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):


A+, Net+, CCNA or other IT certifications Preferred


Required Minimum Experience:


Minimum 5 years as a supervisor of a facility Biomedical Engineering program or program technical group and the associated biomedical staff Required and
Minimum 6 years hospital experience as a biomedical technician. Required and
Demonstrated leadership roles in cross disciplinary projects and activities within healthcare facilities Required and
Experience analyzing and negotiating manufacturer and vendor agreements for devices and service Required and
Minimum 5 years in supporting networked medical devices and systems, including integrated systems sending patient data to various Electronic Medical Records. Required


Required Minimum Skills:


Solid understanding of general Biomed systems, Medical Imaging systems and sterilization technology.
Proficient in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Capable of interpreting building architectural and systems drawings and information.
Able to compose and deliver presentations regarding medical devices and systems to clinical and administrative groups.
