The Opportunity:

Washington State University (WSU), the Voiland College of Engineering and Architecture (VCEA), and the department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) is seeking an Administrative Manager to lead and oversee the administrative functions of the department.

In this role, you will partner with the department chair as their primary administrative advisor, facilitating smooth day-to-day operations. You will be responsible for supervising staff, including planning, assigning, and organizing work; as well as hiring, training, and evaluating support personnel. You will also be responsible for developing and managing operational budgets, conducting fiscal analysis, and supporting both short- and long-term planning efforts.

You will play a key role in facilities and resource management, coordinating contracts, and ensuring compliance with university regulations. Additionally, you will help develop departmental policies, interpret university guidelines, and advise faculty, staff, and students on policy matters.

Additional Information:

This is a full time (100% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime ineligible.

Monthly Salary: $4,943 - $7,085 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and four (4) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified which has included at least one (1) year of supervisory experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing and interpreting financial data and preparing financial reports, statements and/or fiscal projections.

  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving that considers alternatives and provides flexibility.

  • Proficiency with computer software (Microsoft Office applications) and database applications.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize conflicting issues. 


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an institute of higher education.

  • Experience with Workday and Business Objects Data Warehouse.

  • Experience working with grants and contracts.

  • Experience reviewing complex multi-account reports in accordance with federal guidelines and budget restrictions.
