Description

Want to join our Team as a Health Information Specialist? The Health Information Management (HIM) Specialist compiles, processes, and maintains medical records of HOC patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory standards. The HIM Specialist works in a supportive role to the finance, intake, clinical, and compliance departments along with all EMR functions.

 

 

• Responsible for timely processing of all HOC admissions.  Track the flow of documents leaving the HIM Department. Utilization of Excel skills, to transfer information from reporting purposes. Helps to track Admissions and Recertification.

 

• Responsible for daily updating of the Recertification’s Spreadsheet/preparing and overseeing the IDT process. This includes the daily knowledge of all HOC admissions, deaths, discharges, revocations, Face to Face encounters, and recertification’s. The dissemination of this information by Team, and the analysis of each certification period. Frequent contact will all HOC Physicians, Clinical Managers and CTS staff to keep this process running according to Medicare, Medicaid, Private Insurance, and HOC guidelines.

 

•Responsible for daily collection and review Admission Consent forms for correct patient name, dates, signatures, and selected physician matches the Allscripts admissions screen. Daily interaction with admissions nurses to obtain any missing forms or information. Complete a daily email advising all information is received and accurate.

 

• Responsible for timely processing and tracking of patient medical records to include: processing patient Admissions while adhering to HIPAA laws and regulations.

 

• Responsible for processing and posting the completed pharmacy reports when received from the HOC Staff Pharmacist via email, and transfers information into individual patient Allscripts accounts.

 

• Shares the responsibility for fielding all incoming phone calls to the HIM Department. Ability to troubleshoot all calls and completes required tasks or forwards to appropriate person. Checks voice mail and email frequently throughout the day to ensure timely response to staff and physician requests and needs.

 

• Shares the responsibility for processing requests for medical record information from a variety of sources in accordance with HOC, regulatory agencies, federal, and state guidelines.

 

  • Daily documentation scanning through EMR at a relatively high pace with high level of acuity.

     
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS

Health Information experience preferred.
 

Knowledge of Medicare Regulations.

 

Knowledge of Medical Terminology.

 

Proficient in Microsoft Office.

 

Minimum of 2 years in a healthcare related field.

 

Ability to demonstrate tact when fulfilling job responsibilities to the release of confidential information.

 

Ability to accept frequent interruptions throughout the workday, requires the use of outstanding organizational skills along with the ability to plan, direct, and control own workload and schedule.

 

Vigilance to sit for long periods of time. 

 

 

EDUCATION

Associates Degree or higher preferred our equivalent work experience.

 

 

REQUIRMENTS

Must develop an understanding of the overall workflow of the medical records department by the end of the 90-day Orientation period.

Must maintain a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Compliant with health screening and vaccination requirements of organization and position, including annual PPD and Influenza vaccination.
