Primary Purpose
To ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation bus service for the students of Manor ISD with emphasis on safety, cost control and responsiveness to operational needs of the Transportation Department. This position works with the Transportation Management Team and coordinates closely with the Technical Services Department.
Education/Certifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas CDL Driver's License, Class A or B, with P and S endorsements
- Texas School Bus Driver Certification or obtain within 120 days
- Pass an Annual Physical per (DOT) Department of Transportation
- Minimum of 3 years in routing Gen Ed/SPED with emphasis in transportation routing using Trans finder software, preferred
- Possess operational/functional knowledge of computerized routing system Knowledge of demographics, including streets and subdivisions in the Manor ISD School District, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge with creating databases, queries and reports
- Ability to coordinate new and revised bus routes and schedules
- Ability to problem solve and work with little or no assistance or supervision
- Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents
- Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills
- Problem-solving consisting of bringing several factions together, identifying areas of disagreement and causing resolution
Experience:
One year of Bus Operator or equivalent supervisory experience preferred
Essential Job Functions:
Operation
- Provide transportation information to students, parents, and district staff
- Provides data support for boundary planning and redistricting projects
- Develop bus routes based on student enrollment and attendance boundaries zones
- Create new 2-mile and hazardous boundaries including stops, runs and make adjustments to reflect the changes
- Coordinate periodic updates to the student database and attendance zones
- Provide route rosters and other data supporting preparation of state and local transportation reports
- Train and support routing staff and appropriate district personnel in the use of routing software
- Perform routing optimization for the following school year and other required beginning and end of the year processes as necessary
- Go to site location to inspect street location and address range
- Import/export database files to routing system
- Investigate and resolve complaints/concerns regarding routing safety
- Work on special projects assigned by the Director of Transportation Department and other administrative personnel
- Investigate and review all driver/direction issues and determine prevention measures
- Drive a bus based on department needs
- Perform other duties as assigned
Administrative
- Develop, modify and maintain routing reports required for campus, administrator, and transportation record purposes
- Maintain current district routing software maps and coordinate updating street changes and modifications
- Maintain and update student stop count and AM/PM stop times for routing software program
- Maintain a roster of students for reporting purposes and eligibility requirements
- Maintain communication with supervisors, schools, and the public and bus drivers regarding bus route issues and changes that would reflect on the Manor ISD School Zone & Bus Route Web Query
- Analyze, configure and generate student data from Skyward program
- Ensure data accuracy by going out in the field to resolve conflicts
- Act as liaison with district technology department and third party software companies to maintain proper software and hardware operations and resolve programming errors
- Support, design, maintain and update security changes for the database programs for the Transportation Department
- Attend professional development classes/training to keep abreast of innovative techniques in the transportation field and/or District sponsored meetings related to zoning/rezoning or changing of feeder patterns
- Other duties as assigned.
