The goal of the Senior Training Manager is to drive the growth of the sales organization within Surgical by enhancing their commercial capabilities through executing world-class training programs. The Senior Training Manager will meet the needs of the business through advancing clinical and sales training by implementing standardized global training curricula and training strategy. Expectations of the role include demonstrating the behaviors of the Medtronic Mindset to ensure the Mission, strategy, and culture are driven throughout our commercial teams.
The Senior Training Manager will be responsible for the design, development, and delivery of sales training initiatives to commercial employees within the Surgical business. These initiatives will be focused on the capabilities and development of our commercial employees including, but not limited to, new hires, advanced sellers and District Managers. Training will be focused on clinical, procedural, technical and sales skills components. This will involve working in close collaboration with global and regional Commercial Capabilities, Product and Procedural Marketing teams, Medical Affairs, R&D, HR, Sales Leadership and Field Sales Trainers.
We are seeking a committed professional to join our team. While this is a remote position not located at a physical Medtronic site, the candidate hired will be required to reside within the territory and drive to multiple accounts throughout the region. A valid driver's license is essential for this role.
Job Responsibilities
Drive meaningful solutions across the training continuum including, but not limited to, new hires, current sellers, advanced training, recertifications, product launches and manager training
Develop programs that build new capabilities to address identified gaps using needs analysis tools and resources, in collaboration with Sales and Marketing
Partner with global training to customize content and delivery approach with regional adaptations to achieve ~80% global standardization and ~20% local customization
Collaborate with Commercial Overlay to incorporate current selling methodology, sales rep and manager development training, sales tools/application training etc.
Collaborate with Training Enablement to identify, assess and implement optimal training platforms to be used in programs (Allego, AI, LXP, etc.)
Collaborate with Data & Analytics Training Enablement Team to create and implement targeted metrics strategy and iterate appropriately based on feedback and results
Align with Surgical Marketing on materials and programs for the existing portfolio and new product launches
Develop and maintain strong executive stakeholder relationships
Identify talent and find resource efficiencies by utilizing field seller/regional training
Coordinate and Deliver programs on an ongoing basis as requested or needed by Key Stakeholders
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree required; advanced degree preferred (MBA, MA Ed, MA, or PhD)
Minimum of 5 years of field sales or clinical experience
Minimum of 2 commercial roles within Surgical or Sales Training Manager experience within Commercial Capabilities
Self-motivator who can apply innovative thinking to define solutions to business problems; solution oriented
Ability to maintain an ethical mindset and conduct business with integrity
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Proficient in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Ability to travel and be flexible with hours of operation
Strong track record and demonstration of results
Solid organizational skills and ability to operate independently
In-depth knowledge of the field sales organization, structure, processes and culture
Excellent influencing, interpersonal, communication, presentation and facilitation skills
50% travel expectation
Preferred Experience:
7+ years in one or more of the following functions: Sales, Clinical Training, Sales Training, Medical Education, or other relevant areas
Experience selling in the acute care hospital operating room environment
Secondary degree
Large group facilitation experience
Depth of commercial experience, Cross-BU preferred
Experience with project management/project leadership, excellent planning and organizational skills
Experience in the design of training curricula
Proven ability to manage multiple, complex projects concurrently
Demonstrated leadership/coaching skills
