Summary
The Field Service Technician is responsible for installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing InstroTek equipment used in construction materials testing and quality assurance. This position serves as the primary technical contact for customers, ensuring optimal performance of equipment through on-site service and customer support. Must be willing and able to travel approximately 80%, including overnight stays.
Essential Functions
- Perform installation, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of InstroTek instrumentation and testing systems.
- Conduct on-site and remote service visits to customer facilities.
- Provide technical support and customer training on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Document all service activities, maintenance logs, and customer communications in accordance with company policies.
- Maintain service tools, parts inventory, and test equipment in good working condition.
- Ensure compliance with all safety and environmental regulations during fieldwork.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to resolve complex equipment issues.
- Support product improvement initiatives by providing customer feedback and field performance data.
- Additional duties as needed and requested by management
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
- Knowledge of laboratory or field testing equipment, particularly in construction materials testing.
- Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and calibration instruments.
- Strong customer service and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and CRM/service software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel regionally.
Qualifications
- Education: Associate degree or equivalent technical training in electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of field service or technical support experience, preferably with precision instruments or testing equipment.
- Skills: Ability to read schematics, technical manuals, and safety documentation.
Physical Demands
- Required to travel approximately 80%, including overnight stays
- Valid Driver's License and eligible to be insured
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50+ pounds frequently.
- Requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and occasional climbing.
- Regular use of hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, and equipment.
- Willingness to work in materials labs where asphalt, concrete, and soil are present
- Must have good vision, including close, color, and depth perception.
Work Environment (could also be called “Work Conditions”)
- Work performed both in field environments (construction sites, laboratories, customer facilities) and office/shop settings.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and moving mechanical parts.
- Frequent regional travel required; occasional overnight stays.
