Job Summary:

A Medical Assistant is a flexible member of a healthcare team with a wide range of responsibilities. Medical Assistants work with the on-site physician and nurses to perform various patient care duties, including clinical and administrative tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Answer phone calls and take messages.
• Make daily appointments for the clinic.
• Triage patients
• Call in refills on medications and make appropriate follow-up appointments as needed.
• File charts
• Address all employees coming into first aid.
• Pull monthly drug screen list.
• Maintain work comp mileage and submit to work comp adjuster.
• Send work comp bills to adjuster for payment.
• New hire physicals and drugs screens
• Send and file medical excuses.
• Refrigerator temperature checks
• Sporox disinfectant change
• Help with first aid injuries (exp. splinter, abrasions)
• Follow-up with hearing tests and reports

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

• Follows facility and OSHA safety rules and procedures while on assignment.
• Upholds HIPAA regulations
• Punctual and dependent for assigned work schedule.
• Performs other position-related duties as need and/or assigned.
• Beyond CPR and first aid, medical assistants will need to know how to administer drugs and immunizations, draw blood, apply dressings and remove sutures, as well as sterilization techniques and even basic medical techniques. They also need to follow infection control and safety guidelines every day on the job.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Wellborn prefers Medical Assistants to have experience working in a medical or healthcare setting. While licensure is not always a requirement, Wellborn looks for professional certifications and credentials from accredited training programs. Additionally, medical assistants are required to have some background and skill proficiency in the following areas:

• Proficiency in administrative task
• Understanding of clinical task
• Excellent interpersonal and ability to communicate effectively.
• Exceptional attention to detail
• Familiarity with digital record systems
• Able to read and write consistent with job requirements; cognitive skills as related to the position.
• Must be able to keep that information confidential and discuss it only with other medical personnel who are involved in treating the patient.

Education and Experience

• CPR Certified
• Proficient in computer programs, including Microsoft Office (excel, word, etc.)
• Three (3) year Medical Assistant experience would be a plus.

Scope and Impact:

Assist with a variety of tasks that keep the medical facility running smoothly. They help with patients, both directly and indirectly, with simple patient care activities and administrative tasks. 

Medical assistants often help put patients at ease.
