Role Overview

We seek a Design Engineer to bridge the gap between design and development on our innovative social applications. Reporting to our Technical Delivery Manager and collaborating closely with our Design Director, you'll translate sophisticated interface designs into production-quality code while maintaining the highest standards of user experience. This role demands someone equally comfortable in Figma and React, who can move fluidly between design iteration and frontend implementation in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

What You'll Build

Frontend Development & Design Implementation (Primary Focus)

• Transform Figma designs into pixel-perfect, responsive React components for web and mobile platforms

• Build sophisticated social network interfaces with complex user interactions and animations

• Develop and maintain reusable component libraries and design system implementations

• Collaborate directly with designers to refine designs during implementation, providing technical feedback

• Create prototypes and interactive demos to validate design concepts quickly

Design-Development Collaboration

• Bridge communication between design and engineering teams, translating requirements both ways

• Participate in design reviews with technical perspective on feasibility and performance

• Iterate rapidly on UI implementations based on user feedback and design evolution

• Ensure design system consistency across all platform touchpoints

• Advocate for user experience quality throughout the development process

Technical Execution

• Write clean, maintainable HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript code

• Implement responsive designs that work seamlessly across devices and screen sizes

• Optimize frontend performance and ensure smooth, delightful user interactions

• Collaborate with backend engineers to integrate frontend with APIs and services

• Participate in code reviews and maintain engineering best practices

Requirements

Technical Skills

• 5-7 years experience in frontend development with demonstrated expertise in React

• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript

• Expert-level skills in Figma, including component design, prototyping, and design systems

• Deep understanding of responsive design, mobile-first development, and cross-browser compatibility

• Experience with modern frontend tooling, state management, and build systems

• Familiarity with version control (Git) and collaborative development workflows

Development Experience

• Proven track record building and shipping user-facing applications for social media or ecommerce platforms

• Extensive experience with mobile development UIs and understanding of mobile design patterns

• History of translating complex design systems into production code

• Experience with rapid prototyping, iterative development, and agile workflows

• Understanding of frontend performance optimization and accessibility best practices

Design-Engineering Bridge Skills

• Portfolio demonstrating both design sensibility and technical implementation skills

• Experience working in close collaboration with product designers and design teams

• Ability to provide constructive technical feedback during the design process

• Strong eye for visual detail, typography, spacing, and interaction design

• Understanding of design principles and ability to make informed design decisions independently

Collaborative Skills

• Excellent communication skills with ability to speak both "design" and "engineering" languages

• Experience working in small, collaborative teams where roles overlap

• Comfortable with ambiguity and able to make independent decisions

• Proactive approach to identifying and solving both design and technical challenges

• Ability to balance design vision with technical constraints and timelines

Nice-to-Haves

• Proficiency in Swift or Kotlin for native mobile development

• Experience with Cursor and Claude Code for AI-assisted development workflows

• Background in animation and motion design (Framer Motion, GSML, or similar)

• Experience with design tools beyond Figma (Principle, ProtoPie, etc.)

• Understanding of backend systems and API design

• Experience with testing frameworks and quality assurance processes
