Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for a Mine Geologist to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Mine Resource Geologist, the Mine Geologist will assist in the design and execution of geological tasks related to the day to day operation of the open pit mine.
This position is located at the Mine site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation. On-call night shifts may be required during the 14 days in.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate leadership in Health, Safety, and Environment through daily actions and communication. Report all incidents and participate in safety initiatives, reviews, and investigations.
- Ensure safe work practices and compliance with established procedures, including risk assessments, incident reporting, and policy reviews.
- Supervise and coordinate a team of grade control technicians to safely meet department objectives.
- Assist with the design and implementation of drill programs that efficiently support ore definition, short-range modeling, and daily production control.
- Manage day-to-day grade control and drilling activities, ensuring accurate data collection, sampling, and geological interpretation.
- Prepare and communicate dig plans, ore mark-outs, and flitch maps to Mine Operations and Survey teams to support accurate ore extraction and minimize dilution.
- Support daily and weekly reconciliation between mined material, stockpiles, and mill feed, investigating discrepancies in tonnage and grade.
- Liaise with laboratories to monitor sample turnaround, address assay quality issues, and maintain QA/QC standards.
- Participate in production meetings, providing geological input on ore availability, sequencing, and potential risk areas.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by evaluating and refining grade control procedures, data management, and geological workflows.
- Provide geological information and support to Technical Services and Mine Operations as required.
- Promote a respectful and collaborative work environment and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Geology or Geological Engineering or post-Secondary completion in a related field of study.
- Professional Designation, P. Geo is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience with at least 2 years in a mining environment.
- A minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience leading geological field teams in a mining environment.
- Open pit experience is preferred.
- Experience in Gold mining is an asset.
- Experience working in a remote site is an asset.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental requirements for remote mining operations.
- Familiarity with applicable OHS and mining regulations.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with geological modeling and database software (e.g., Leapfrog, acQuire, Datamine, Vulcan).
- Familiarity with tracking and reconciling material movement, ore grades, and stockpiles to support production and reporting accuracy.
- Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract.
