Job Summary:
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Leadership and Planned Giving, the Director of Prospect Management and Research is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the prospect management and research program for the Office of Institutional Advancement and Strategic Engagement at Saint Peter’s University. This position plays a critical role in advancing the University’s philanthropic goals by identifying, evaluating, and prioritizing prospective donors to support principal, leadership, and planned giving initiatives. The Director of Prospect Management and Research partners closely with senior leadership, leadership gift officers, and all frontline fundraisers to ensure a robust pipeline of prospective individual, corporate, and foundation donors to inform effective cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Leads the development and implementation of a prospect management system to track, assign, and monitor prospective donors.
  • Establishes best-in-practice policies and procedures for portfolio management, including metrics, movement tracking, and pipeline reporting.
  • Partners with leadership gifts officers and other frontline fundraisers to optimize their portfolios and identify opportunities for engagement and solicitation.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President and Assistant Vice President, develop and maintain a select list of 25 – 50 priority prospects for Presidential cultivation and stewardship.
  • Conduct prospect research to identify, qualify, and rate prospects with the capacity and inclination to support the university’s philanthropic priorities.

Director of Prospect Management and Research

  • Create prospect profiles and event briefing materials to assist with strategic prospect engagement.
  • Utilize advanced research tools, databases, and methodologies to gather and analyze information ethically and effectively.
  • Develop and maintain reports and analytics to monitor progress toward fundraising goals.
  • Facilitate monthly prospect pipeline meetings with leadership gift officers and other frontline fundraisers to review proposal submissions, assign new prospects, share progress with solicitations, and update other portfolio metrics.
  • Analyze prospect data to identify trends, gaps, and areas for strategic intervention.
  • Working in collaboration with the Director of Advancement Operations and Analytics, ensure the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of prospect data within the University’s CRM system.
  • Provide recommendations for needed prospect research tools and technologies, to ensure best-in-practice operations.
  • Ensure all research and data management activities comply with applicable laws, university policies, and ethical standards set by professional organizations such as CASE and the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Vice President for Leadership and Planned Giving and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement and Strategic Engagement.

Salary Range: $80,000 - $110,000

Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or master’s degree in related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in prospect research, prospect management, fundraising analytics, or a related field, preferably in higher education.
  • Strong understanding of fundraising principles, portfolio management, and pipeline development.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g. Blackbaud’s The Raiser’s Edge NXT) and research tools (e.g., LexisNexis, iWave, WealthEngine).
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and outstanding written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical research practices.
  • Proven success in the ability to collaborate with colleagues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time.

  • Frequently communicates with others over the phone and in person; must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Ability to speak clearly and communicate proficiently in English.

Work Schedule:
Full-time; 52 weeks per year. In addition to regular business hours, the person in this position must be able to be flexible around the needs of the University, which includes occasional evening and/or weekend hours.
