Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced, customer obsessed, passionate, and dynamic individual to join our management and leadership team at our Montrose store as our next Assistant Store Director! 

A successful candidate will have experience of managing and leading a dynamic team of individuals. They will have experience identifying, addressing, and implementing solutions to problems with little to no guidance. They will be comfortable operating in both black & white as well as grey/ambiguous scenarios. This individual will assist the Store Director with providing leadership and direction in store operations by clearly understanding and carrying out Mustard Seed's strategic plan, developing action plans to drive the strategic plan, ensuring excellent customer service, and implementing training methods and merchandising techniques that support the Mustard Seeds' objectives. This position reports to the Store Director.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Store Director in supervision of and providing leadership to Team Leaders and hourly staff. 
  • Adherence to Mustard Seed Market and Café’s Mission, Vision and Values.
  • Works in conjunction with the Human Resources Department in resolving associate conflicts and disciplinary issues.
  • Fosters positive associate relations through open communication and, in conjunction with the Human Resources Department, interprets and enforces the company’s policies and procedures in a fair, consistent manner.   
  • Performs Manager on Duty responsibilities which include evenings and weekends.
  • Assists with reviewing department schedules to ensure there are appropriate staffing levels for all hours of store operations and that labor budgets are being adhered to.
  • Responsible for increasing sales, achieving gross profit goals, maximizing profits and controlling and reducing maintenance expenses, store supplies and inventory.
  • Provides direction and guidance to all Team Leaders on the merchandising of their departments.
  • Responsible for maintaining ingredient integrity of products to ensure compliance with Mustard Seed Market & Café’s standards.
  • Assists with store-wide planning and execution of all special events.
  • Communicates and analyzes customer feedback, identifies opportunities for improvement, and assists in implementing programs and procedures to address customer issues.
  • Responds to fire, burglar alarms and emergencies in Store Director’s absence.
  • Performs physical inspection of store facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state and OSHA regulations.
  • Assists with directing and maintaining safety programs and procedures to ensure the safety of customers and associates; works in conjunction with Human Resources Department in communicating and enforcing safety procedures, investigating accident reports, and safety issues.  
  • Work on special projects as assigned with emphasis on improving departmental operations
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in a non-smoking office within the store, spending much time walking through the store, with daily exposure to all store activities. Limited travel to attend meetings.

Requirements

Education And Experience

  • High school education or equivalent is required
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in a retail setting is required
  • Previous fiscal responsibility in a retail setting is preferred
  • Business Administration degree or equivalent experience is preferred
  • Previous grocery retail experience is preferred


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong understanding of store operations in a retail environment
  • Ability to read a profit & loss statement
  • Demonstration of strong leadership skills
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct and control
  • Interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills using the windows operating system including internet, printing, and email
  • Basic usage of Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
