Senior Friendship Centers is currently seeking a Senior Center Assistant Manager to bring energy, creativity, and compassion to our Senior Center! Our Senior Centers create community in every sense of the word! They offer seniors a space to take classes, exercise, play cards, socialize, create art, listen to live music, learn a new language, learn about healthy aging, or sit down with friends over coffee.
This position will help oversee the daily operations and activities of our Venice Senior Center. This dynamic position supports the Center Manager in coordinating programs, monthly preparation of the center’s financials, engaging members, supervising volunteers, and ensuring every guest feels welcome, valued, and supported.
We are seeking someone who thrives on providing exceptional customer service, coordinating and planning engaging programs and activities, and communicating effectively with members, staff, and community stakeholders.
This is a full-time, Monday-Friday position that will work around 40 hours/week. Essential Functions:
Operational:
- Provide back up in the daily oversight of the Senior Center when the Manager is out of the office, including opening and closing routine.
- Assist with the notification and processing of membership renewals.
- Create, distribute and post flyers for communication with members when needed.
- Communicate with community partners as directed by the Senior Center Manager.
- Assist with timely and accurate record-keeping and documentation, including data entry into multiple database systems as required.
- Assist in planning and overseeing events during regular business hours and special events on weekends or evenings related to Center activities, as needed.
- Must be present and visible in the center, greeting everyone, moving around from various activities, checking in on volunteers, instructors, and members throughout the day.
- Make announcements with the microphone as directed by the Senior Center Manager, as needed.
- Prepare rooms for use and straighten them up when programs conclude.
- Responsible for scheduling classes, collecting membership fees, using the credit card machine, and preparing class rosters if necessary.
- Recruit and oversee volunteers including compliance of timesheets. Train new volunteers and delegate job duties to each volunteer based on their skills.
- Assist with fundraising and outreach activities to promote the organization’s mission and assist with the processing of donations and fees following fiscal department policy.
- Responsible for Bistro inventory.
- Report any incident of abuse or neglect as mandated by the state guidelines.
Organizational:
- Attend staff meetings, training, and seminars as required.
- Must comply with all Senior Friendship Centers personnel policies.
- Must protect the safety and health of staff, volunteers, participants, and others by observing and following the organization’s safety and incident policies.
- Report any incident of abuse or neglect as mandated by the state guidelines.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Acting as a back-up for the Senior Center Manager’s duties when they are not available.

- Bilingual preferred (English/Spanish)
Education, Experience, Licenses, and Certifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, ability, and skills to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Experience with designing and developing programs is desired.
- Basic computer skills are required, including experience with Microsoft Office suite. Must have experience with Outlook calendars, Excel, and Publisher.
- Ability to quickly learn the applications, technology, and equipment used in the center; including but not limited to digital music, tablets, and smart devices.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting and standing.
- Lifting and moving chairs and tables regularly.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
- Must be able to independently access various departments of a given location.

Travel:
- Some travel may be required to complete administrative tasks.
- Occasional travel to assist other program sites may occur.
- Must have reliable transportation.
- A valid driver’s license and proof of insurance are required for all work-related travel.
Additional eligibility requirements:
- Satisfactory clearance of a fingerprint-based, level II background screening and pre-employment substance abuse testing is required.
- Must be authorized to work in the United States.
