The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of Facilities and Support Services (OFSS) - Services Section is seeking candidates for the position of Manager 2, Facilities Manager. This position is located in Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia and will require the incumbent to have 24 Hour On-Call availability and travel throughout the state of Georgia as needed.

Position Duties

Paygrade M

Leads facilities maintenance team with engineering activities, performing tasks related to the design, renovation, repair and maintenance of facilities or other structures. Develops strategic and long term construction plans for the agency or institution. May develop internal procedures, applying sound principles used throughout the building and maintenance trades. Directs subordinate supervisors and staff. May require maintaining 24-hour emergency on call availability.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Manages subordinate supervisors and staff.
  • Responsible for all the activities of maintenance staff, assigning jobs, and coordinating priorities from a multitude of daily work assignments given.
  • Manages budget, schedule and scope of work for the execution of multiple and/or complex capital projects, facility renovations and equipment replacement.
  • Prepares project scope documentation, design and budget reviews, proposals and contractor payment applications.
  • Performs tasks related to the design, renovation, repair and maintenance of facilities or other structures.
  • Maintains a 24-hour emergency on call availability.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED AND eight (8) years of experience in maintenance and/or general building construction,  which includes two (2) years in a managerial or supervisory role; 
OR 
  • Two (2) years of experience at the lower level Manager, Facilities Maintenance/Construction (FEP030) or position equivalent.
Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all the following education/skills/experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Four (4) years of experience in construction and/or maintenance, Two (2) years of which include a position as a supervisor or manager.
OR
  • Associate's/Vocational/Technical degree from an accredited college or university AND Six (6) years of experience in maintenance and/or general building construction, with two (2) years of which include a Supervisor/Manager experience. 

  • Well-versed experience as facilities manager or relevant position.
  • Well-versed in technical/engineering operations and facilities management best practices.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting and finance principles.
  • BSc/BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field.
