JOB SUMMARY

The financial aid/loan officer, responsible to the director of financial aid, works in conjunction with the dean of administrative and financial services to administer the loan, scholarship and NC State programs for the student population of Carolinas College of Health Sciences (CCHS). This position will be responsible for certifying loans, requesting funds, reconciling accounts and promissory notes, sending Atrium Health loans to billing and collections, and administering the Direct Stafford Loan Default Management program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administers the Direct Federal Stafford Loan program for the student population of Carolinas College of Health Sciences (CCHS).

  • Makes literature and information regarding loan programs available to inquiring students.
  • Answers questions regarding student loan eligibility, loan application processing, and disbursement schedules.
  • Certifies student loan funds and applies all loan activity to the tuition account of each student.
  • Aggressively orchestrates and adheres to the college default management program in order to keep the college default rate at a minimum level.
  • Reconciles the federal funds account with student loan reconciliation report monthly.
  • Utilizes the various federal electronic programs to process applications, certifications and request disbursement and refunds.

Administers the Atrium Health's Educational Loan Forgiveness Program for the student population of Carolinas College of Health Sciences and assists with the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences loan.

  • Reconciles the tracking spreadsheet monthly.
  • Coordinates repayment of out‐of‐school student loan accounts with Atrium Health Human Resource Operations, and billing and collection services.
  • Answers questions regarding loan amounts and repayment requirements.
  • Ensures that the loan paperwork is completed each semester.

Administers the NC State Education Assistance Authority/CFI programs.

  • Determines eligibility for the NC State programs.
  • Certifies eligible students and awards funds accordingly.
  • Reconciles and returns NC State funds as needed/required.

Maintains professional competence, including system- and college-assigned requirements.

  • Possesses and continually develops position-specific knowledge and requirements.
  • Works with manager to identify and schedule needed orientation and/or training related to the position.
  • On an ongoing basis, participates in appropriate continuing education, training offerings or other scholarly activities (e.g., certification training, formal education, membership in professional organizations, conference attendance, presentation or publications).
  • Annually evaluates own job performance and goal attainment.
  • Effectively and appropriately uses computer technology appropriate to position.
  • Completes relevant training, as required (e.g., annual continuing education (ACE) modules, Title IX and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) training, Mental health first aid training).
  • Complies with Atrium Health's clinical requirements (e.g., tuberculosis screening tests, annual influenza vaccination), as required. g., tuberculosis screening tests, annual influenza vaccination) as required.
    • Baccalaureate degree required.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Three years' experience involving the processing of Title IV federal student aid programs.
  • Computer skills - experience in on-line use of Title IV programs preferred; Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Office work.
  • Majority of time distributed between walking (20%); standing and bending for filing (10%); sitting (65%); lifting files up to 25 lbs. (5%).
  • Responsible for working in a safe manner.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to respond to age specific issues and data reflective of the patient's status.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for the following age groups:
