The University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s Office of Digital Learning seeks a creative and detail-oriented Graphic Designer to join our team. This position plays a key role in the design and development of engaging visual materials that support the delivery of high-quality online courses. Working collaboratively with instructional designers, video producers, and faculty, the Graphic Designer will create visually compelling assets that enhance teaching, learning, and communication.
This role involves both independent creative decision-making and close collaboration with the Digital Learning Interactive Learning Technologies and Media team. The ideal candidate will bring strong design expertise.
Responsibilities
- Design and produce graphics, illustrations, and other visual elements for online courses, including banners, images, infographics, and other instructional media.
- Design custom presentation templates and other visual assets to support faculty content delivery in online courses.
- Produce graphics for newsletters, social media, and faculty communication initiatives.
- Ensure all graphics and media align with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and accessibility standards.
- Work closely with other graphic designers and team members to prioritize and fulfill project requests in a fast-paced production environment.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts, Visual Communication, or related field
- Experience:
- 1 year of experience in the creation of graphic design assets, either through full-time employment, internships/student work, freelance work, etc.
- Experience working in higher education, instructional design, or e-learning development
- Familiarity with Learning Management System platforms (e.g., Canvas) and multimedia integration in online courses.
- Experience designing for both digital and print communication (e.g., newsletters, reports, social media assets).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Skilled in HTML, CSS, and Content Management System
- Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator
- Strong Project Management Skills
- Strong communication skills, including consultations with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
- Strong graphic design and development skills
- Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines with faculty, instructional designers, and media producers
- Knowledge of accessibility and universal design principles in media creation

Compensation and Benefits
- Hiring Range: $50,000-55,000 dependent on experience
- UT market range: MR 09
