The System Engineer II supports the design, development, and qualification of computing solutions. This role is responsible for tasks such as component selection, system qualification, OS and driver configuration, work instruction creation, and assisting with automated test development to support the productization of solutions within the manufacturing environment. The position requires a solid understanding of computing technologies and hands-on system-building experience, with an emphasis on applying engineering processes, qualification techniques, and maintaining quality workmanship. Under the guidance of senior engineers, the System Engineer II contributes to tool and process development, component qualification, engineering change management, and design for manufacturability (DFM) efforts. The role involves close collaboration with internal cross-functional teams and provides support to the manufacturing environment and related departments to ensure successful deployment and production readiness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Participate in activities associated with customer solution development including data collection, analysis, computer and component troubleshooting, and methods to characterize design.
  • Analyze and document requirements for testability, traceability, and completeness.
  • Implement product requirements, conduct integration and qualification of individual components, performance characteristics qualification and environmental considerations.
  • Install and configure operating systems, firmware, software applications, and various software-based components to perform troubleshooting, verification, validation, and system qualification.
  • Objectively qualify all configurations of product and any defined stakeholder needs including working with the Manufacturing teams to ensure an efficient and appropriate hand-off. Ensure all conclusions reached comply with solution requirements and needs.
  • Participate in the planning activities including milestone development, risk management, estimation and execution, and on-time success.
  • Develop supporting documentation, summarize all verification and validation results, analyze and interpolate test data, record pass/fail results, and justify conclusions reached in compliance of all product requirements.
  • Follow the engineering change management process to plan and communicate changes of customer products, manufacturing engineering, and the manufacturing environment.
  • Technical support for customers in the assessment of performance, stability, and systems management lifecycle issues.
  • Drive excellence through benchmarking and best practices. Follow and enhance development processes, work procedures, and work instructions that align with ISO 9001.

Essential Education, Skills and Experience:

  • This position requires being in the office and the candidate must be located near the City of Industry, CA. Flexible remote during the week may be possible.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience working with computer hardware, computing solutions, and related technology components.
  • IT or Technical Computing certifications such as CompTIA A+, Cloud+, Security+, Microsoft, or Linux+ are preferred; experience with contract manufacturing or cellular work environments is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of computer components, functions, applications, final assembly, service procedures, packaging, and testing, with a basic knowledge of computing design considerations and environmental qualification processes.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with engineering drawings, specifications, component datasheets, and technical manuals; familiarity with basic electronics is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of Windows, Linux, networking, data storage, rack assembly, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience using test facilities and equipment to support data collection and analysis for product qualification.
  • Ability to assist in implementing engineering tools and contribute to process improvements and automation initiatives to support reduced time-to-market and improved development efficiency.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience interpreting customer-reported issues and assisting with troubleshooting root causes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently on tasks and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and priorities while maintaining a high standard of quality and meeting project deadlines.
  • Strong practical problem-solving skills, with the ability to work in situations with limited standardization.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of working with moderate supervision.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma methodologies, and other process improvement practices.
  • The base pay range for this role is between $70,000 and $120,000 and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location, along with budgeted range of position.
