Main responsibilities:
Reporting to the Director of Sustainability, the Sustainability Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and functions of specific Recipe for Change workstreams as well as supporting and driving cross-functional projects to achieve Recipe for Change strategies and goals.
The position is in office 4 days per week and will be based in Boise, Idaho or Pleasanton CA.
Project Management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and manage project plans for Recipe for Change and other sustainability-related initiatives, such as emissions, food waste, and food donations.
- Assist in managing multi-year road maps for Recipe for Change goals and stay up to date with evolving technologies and best practices to drive continuous improvement
- Support operational initiatives, such as emissions reduction, food waste diversion and food donation.
- Support value-chain related projects, such as Scope 3 engagement or commodity-specific initiatives.
- Manage and build business cases around sustainability projects, activities and initiatives to ensure timely deliverables and stakeholder needs.
External Engagement
- Be responsible for sustainability-related reporting, using data, stories and reporting to help shape external perception of Albertsons Companies and Recipe for Change. This includes the annual Recipe for Change report, CDP, and other sustainability-related reporting.
- Continually identify opportunities to streamline and improve our reporting approach in line with business priorities.
- Provide support in representing Albertsons Companies in engagements with or inquiries from investors, NGOs, CPGs, and industry groups.
- Support the monitoring of and preparation for sustainability-related policy at the federal, state, and local levels.
Internal Excellence
- Be responsible for internal reporting and communication of sustainability-related metrics and progress, ensuring timely, accurate updates that support cross-functional accountability and inform strategic decision-making
- Facilitate ongoing measurement of improvements and achievements; identify gaps and articulate solutions to key stakeholders.
- Manage audit-ready data systems that create actionable insights, ensure accuracy, and support compliance-readiness.
- Manage calculations and tracking of emissions (Scopes 1-3), food waste diversion, and operational food donations.
- Research and provide insight and recommendations on policies and best practices for sourcing and product specifications.
- Advise and support established budgetary and operating processes.
- Ad-hoc analyses, research, and management as needed by leadership

We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
- Master’s degree in related field preferred; Bachelor’s degree required
- 5+ years of experience in sustainability, process improvement or related fields
- Previous experience in Retail or Food and Beverage industries preferred
- Proficiency in carbon emissions accounting
- Familiarity with waste diversion strategies
- Experience with and/or in-depth knowledge of sustainability-related reporting frameworks, trends, and disclosure requirements (CDP, GRI, SASB, ISSB, CA Requirements, etc.)
- Understanding of the sustainability-related regulatory-landscape preferred, ideally with an knowledge of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), disclosure, and waste regulations
- Experience supporting human rights workstreams, such as risk assessments, due diligence, responsible sourcing, and stakeholder engagement is a plus
- Expertise in corporate sustainability and ESG related best-practices, as well as knowledge of current and future sustainability industry initiatives, trends and regulations
- Strong documentation, organization, and presentation skills, including expertise in Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI and other Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to partner and communicate effectively with all levels and business functions, with strong skills in both written and oral communications
- Ability to work independently and anticipate and solve for probable events, preparation tasks, and potential issues

The salary range is $95,400 to $123,900 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates.
Benefits may include, medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay/Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually) bereavement pay and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.
