Boulder County Public Works Department is seeking to hire three (3) Building Services Security Officers.  The Building Services Security Officer is a journey level classification. The Building Services Security Officer performs building security, access control and badge management, public assistance and routine parking enforcement duties.

This is a full-time, benefited position.  This position will work Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm.  This position will work at either the Downtown Courthouse or North Broadway Hub in Boulder, Colorado.  Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is non-exempt.

Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work.


Hiring Salary Range: $50,004.00 - $57,018.00 Annually


Tentative Hiring Timeline:

  • Phone Screening: November 20th
  • First Round Interviews: November 25th
  • Second Round Interviews: December 4th
  • Reference Check: December 8th


New employees receive an 80-hour bank of vacation at the time of hire, in addition to 8 hours of both vacation and medical leave accruals each month (Must not have been employed at Boulder County during the 12 months prior to re-hire date to qualify).Boulder County offers bountiful benefits, including pension contributions.

Position Duties

  1. Makes rounds of interiors and exteriors of assigned county buildings, checking for general security
  2. Guards against theft and destruction of property
  3. Questions persons in unauthorized areas and escorts them from area or building, if necessary
  4. Reports unusual behavior or problems to proper authorities as appropriate
  5. Assists county employees and the public by providing information regarding security, as well as county facilities, programs and services, in person, in writing and over the phone
  6. Assists in administering door access systems for all county facilities, with the exception of prisoner control areas, such as the county jail
  7. Assists with training, planning and response to emergency situations
  8. Calls for emergency medical assistance for ill and injured persons if necessary
  9. Issues tickets for parking ordinance violations and discuss nature of violation with motorists as necessary
  10. Delivers deposits from county offices to designated banks
  11. Performs general courier duties for county departments, as needed
  12. Performs related work, as required, including overtime assignments.
  13. May be reassigned in emergency situations

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in building security work.

 Additional related education or training may count towards required experience.


DRIVER'S LICENSE & RELIABLE VEHICLE:

Other Qualifications

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Employee must have, or be able obtain, CPR/First aid certification within first 30 days of employment
  • Experience in access badge creation, deletion, modification, access reports; and door programming, troubleshooting, and scheduling

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Basic knowledge of law enforcement procedures and techniques 

  • Working knowledge of emergency first aid procedures

  • Working knowledge and competency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)

  • Working knowledge and competency with any commercial access control system. 

  • Preferred Andover Continuum, Security Expert, or Protege GX system experience

  • Ability to work effectively with other employee, agencies and the public


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Seeing, hearing, speaking and writing legibly. Occasional reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling and crouching. Frequent sitting, standing and walking, which may be required for long periods of time and may involve climbing stairs or ladders and walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. Addition physical requirements may include frequent lifting and/or moving up to 45 pounds
