As a member of the Distribution Team, the DC Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that Johnstone stores receive the Right Product at the Right Time and in the Right Condition by monitoring the daily order-filling workload and directing labor needs; checking shipping documents for accuracy; answering questions related to the Shipping department; coordinating emergency or unusual shipments with truck lines; and ensuring Distribution standard operating procedures are followed.
Position responsibilities:
- Ensures a safe work environment by: observing and coaching employees; removing potential safety hazards; maintaining a clean work area through a clean as you work process; and participating as a permanent member of the Safety Committee.
- Maintains department staff by: conducting interviews in the hiring process and making recommendations; overseeing the training of new employees and cross training of existing employees; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees as necessary; and conducting mid year progress performance reviews as well as annual performance reviews.
- Maintain department payroll through use of ADP.
- Ensures that Distribution Center Employees have the appropriate training support to be successful in their individual roles and provides on-going coaching and professional development.
- Ensures established performance standards and budgets are met by reviewing weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports and taking necessary actions.
- Maintains communication between employees and supervisors by conducting department meetings.
- Communicate daily warehouse staffing with fellow supervisors and makes recommendations for handling volume of work.
- Maintain Distribution Building integrity through lock up procedure and securing building at days end as well as handling minor building maintenance when needed or applicable.
- Ensure end of day system close out process is performed nightly.
- Actively involved with Distribution Center’s carrier base including timely communication, monthly service reviews, and daily communication on issues that negatively impact the Distribution Center or its customer base.
- Works closely with the facility and/or department trainer – reviewing discrepancies, identifying training needs of staff, and issuing timely follow up with associates.
- Maintains equipment servicing including daily equipment checks, battery watering procedures are followed and ensures that all necessary equipment repairs are made timely.
- Ensures that all lift equipment drivers are tested on the machinery prior to issuing •
- Depending on business needs, may also be responsible for providing split-shift coverage. use approval.
Position requirements:
- High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.); at least 3 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but not required for this role.
- Knowledge of aspects related to the shipping of products in distribution industry.
- Knowledge of human resource management principles, including hiring, training and orienting, coaching, and evaluating employees as well as providing discipline when necessary.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Problem-solving skills: listening to, interpreting, and meeting the needs of others; diagnosing and rectifying problems.
- Ability to plan, organize, and direct the activities of subordinates.
