Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate the values and guiding principles of OhioGuidestone every day, performing with the highest standards of excellence, integrity and ethics.
  • Design, plan, and facilitate a variety of activities including recreational, educational, and team-building exercises on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Ensure that activities are age-appropriate, culturally sensitive, and tailored to meet the needs of individual residents based on their treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with program management, therapists, counselors, and other clinical staff to ensure that activities align with the therapeutic goals for each resident.
  • Participate in treatment planning meetings to help determine appropriate activities that support residents’ emotional and behavioral growth.
  • Supervise residents during activities, providing guidance and ensuring safe, appropriate behavior in both structured and unstructured settings.
  • Implement behavior management strategies in accordance with treatment protocols to promote positive interaction and conflict resolution.
  • Provide feedback to clinical staff regarding residents’ behavior and engagement during activities.
  • Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe environment and adhere to facility policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all residents are supervised at all times and that activities are implemented in a manner that minimizes risks.
  • Coordinate off-site excursions, community outings, and recreational events (when appropriate), enhancing residents’ exposure to new experiences and environments.
  • Build relationships with community partners, volunteers, and organizations that can enhance the activities program.
  • Foster a sense of community, teamwork, and positive social interactions among residents through group activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of activities, attendance, and resident progress related to participation in activities.
  • Prepare reports on program effectiveness and resident engagement for supervisory staff.
  • Provide training to staff and volunteers on leading activities, behavior management techniques, and fostering positive interactions with youth.
  • Model appropriate interaction styles and guide other staff in supporting residents during activities.
  • Provide coverage in cottages as needed to maintain appropriate staffing ratios
  • Correctly utilize physical techniques as instructed by the agency approved behavioral safety system. 
  • Complete all required training prior to deadline, both in person and online through the agency’s learning management system.
  • Exhibit positivity, flexibility and a willingness to take on new responsibilities as requested or required.
  • Demonstrate positive leadership, promote a team-based work environment and a culture of belonging.
  • Present the Agency in the most positive light with all internal and external contacts.

Education & Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy, Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience working with youth in a residential or therapeutic setting, with a focus on activity coordination or therapeutic program development.

  • The ability to physically restrain residents whose ages, heights and weights vary according to agency approved behavioral safety system.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage youth in a positive and meaningful way.
  • Ability to design and lead group activities, with creativity and a focus on personal development.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and activities simultaneously while ensuring a safe and supportive environment for residents.
  • Ability to lead physical activities (e.g., sports, outdoor activities) and engage with youth in a variety of settings.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and set up equipment as needed.
  • Ability to customarily and regularly exercise discretion and good professional judgment
  • Flexible; able to work days, evenings, holidays and/or weekends, as desired to meet the needs of clients.
  • Strong organizational skills; able to handle multiple priorities with strict attention to detail and perform work independently.
  • Ability to maintain relevant, timely documentation as required.
  • Effective computer literacy skills, including Windows applications, Microsoft Office Suite, and electronic health records, etc.
  • Possess a valid Ohio Driver’s License with a safe driving record and valid insurance.
  • Successfully meet pre-employment drug screen, physical, TB and background requirements.
