Position Summary
Assures compliance with the proper regulatory, customer and GMP requirements. The Sanitation Supervisor assures us that the work groups meet the company’s safety, quality, food safety, customer service, and cost commitments. It is the Sanitation Supervisor’s responsibility to oversee the work of Sanitors as well as validate the sanitary condition of the facility and all machinery and storage inside.
Responsibilities
- Promotes a positive work environment for the entire 3rd shift.
- Supervises adherence to plant safety rules and GMP’s during sanitation process
- Ensures compliance with all company and regulatory sanitation food quality and food safety standards as well as employee safety and environmental standards
- Works closely with outside sanitation contractors, management and production personnel on sanitation process, recommending changes to improve sanitation policies, procedures, and cleaning effectiveness
- Monitors, audits, and updates processing and packaging equipment SSOPs to ensure optimal cleanliness
- Performs comprehensive sanitation audits on each unique production process including dismantling and inspection processing and packaging equipment to determine sanitation effectiveness
- Communicate and documents reports/trends/issues regarding inspections, swabbing, sanitation deviations, and steps taken to resolve deficiencies
- Perform pre-operative inspections and ensure timely and effective Quality and USDA pre-op inspections.
- Conducts and/or verifies training and development of sanitation personnel on proper cleaning procedures
- Understands chemical specifications and their effectiveness/proper application for different SSOP’s
- Responsible for overseeing, coordinating, and accountability of the outside contracted sanitation service
- Manages adherence of all parties to 3rd party sanitation service contract
- Reviews labor schedules to ensure appropriate coverage to meet labor efficiencies and production demands
- Originates, maintains and revises documentation including the master sanitation schedule and SSOP’s reflecting process improvements that maintain or improve pre-operational and operational hygienic conditions
- Reviews and maintains sanitation documentation for Quality Assurance and regulatory review
- Build partnerships with production, quality, maintenance, and human resources to ensure plant goals are met and shift handoffs are on time and effective
- Manage chemical inventory and usage for safe and efficient sanitation process across the plant.
- Maintains relationship with chemical suppliers and utilizes 3rd party resources as necessary.
- Works cross functionally to ensure daily and long-term plant goals are met
- Champions continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
- Associate degree in Science, Business, and/or 3-5 years of sanitation experience in the food industry.
- Experience in RTE Environments preferred
- Experience with USDA regulations preferred
- Ability to manage contractors, vendors, auditors, and company leadership
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated proficiency in supervising and motivating subordinates
- Competence in subordinates’ duties and tasks
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels.
- Ability to delegate assignments, give authority to work independently, set expectations, and monitor progress
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both private and group settings
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
- Bilingual skills are preferred but not required
- Ability to understand all safety requirements and cautions
- Good time management and the ability to effectively prioritize personal and subordinate expectations
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees
- Basic Computer skills including professional digital communication, the Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to learn and utilize new and changing IT related tools and applications.
- Identify and resolve challenges via the ability to gather and analyze information in a skillful manner
- Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
- Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Work is performed in a manufacturing and office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those individual encounters while performing the essential functions of this position.
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required:
- Standing and/or walking throughout the shift
- Perform physical skills: hold, feel, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and listen
- Lifting /Carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Use of both hands when required, some repetitive motion required
- Work in both extreme hot and cold temperatures as well as wet conditions.
