The successful candidate will have a foundation in engineering or computer science and be proficient in core software development. You will help build data-driven platforms with potential impact across politics, scientific knowledge creation, and healthcare. This role offers the opportunity to work in small, collaborative teams with both US and non-US developers and to influence real-world technology solutions.



RESPONIBILITIES

Develop and contribute to new data-driven frameworks and platforms that support AI news generation, with emphasis on reliability, scalability, and ethical considerations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research ideas into working prototypes and production-ready components.

Assist with data ingestion, processing, and analysis workflows, including unstructured data handling and transformation.

Help implement and optimize components that leverage large language models (LLMs) and related AI tooling.

Contribute to documentation, unit tests, and example pipelines to promote reusability and maintainability.

Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and agile ceremonies; communicate progress clearly to teammates in the US and abroad.

Support ongoing research projects and initiatives, including experimentation, data collection, and evaluation.

TECHNOLOGIES

Must-have - Python, JavaScript / Node.js, Experience with LLMs and processing unstructured data

Nice-to-have - LangChain, GraphQL, OpenSearch (or Elasticsearch), AWS (general cloud engineering concepts

REQUIREMENTS

Located near Bethesda, MD

2–3 years of software engineering experience (or equivalent coursework/projects)

Strong academic foundation or demonstrated interest in software engineering, AI, data analysis, or related field

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline

Solid understanding of AWS services and cloud-based architectures

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including active listening

Interest in politics, policy, or finance

Experience working in small, cross-cultural teams

Familiarity with data privacy, ethics, and responsible AI considerations
