  • Oversee operational and customer service activities of Operations Departments including ordering, stocking, receiving, inventory control, safety, customer service standards, member/shopper feedback and overall aesthetics and engaging and comfortable shopping experience.
  • Ensure operations are functioning effectively, efficiently and ensure department objectives are met, outcomes achieved, and performance standards upheld.
  • Responsible for ensuring an optimal customer experience by seeing that standards for customer service, cleanliness, and sales floor presentation are being met.
  • Work with Director of Operations to create, develop, communicate, implement, and evaluate operating standards and procedures for all Operations Departments.
  • Develop and implement store budget and business plan, including sales targets, margin, labor, purchases, and cost controls; support reporting Department Heads in developing department specific plans; ensure that all fiscal benchmarks are achieved.
  • Work with Director of Operations to develop operational plans and vision; execute vision by achieving operational goals set by Director of Operations.
  • Oversee purchasing and receiving activities and coordinate periodic inventory.
  • Oversee product selection, category management and promotional activities.
  • Ensure strategic and consistent merchandising throughout all retail locations with an emphasis on enhancing customer experience and growing sales.
  • Oversee design and implementation of physical resets and promotional displays.
  • Work with Marketing Department to ensure best placement and promotion of products and programs
  • Oversee supplier relationships, including distributors, vendors, local growers, and producers.
  • Provide training and professional development to Operations Department Heads and Assistant Store Manager, and support those activities within departments
  • Model supportive and participatory leadership qualities, actively promote team building and motivate staff to achieve their stated objectives: lead regular huddles and meetings, ensure teamwork and communication is efficient and effective, and support all team members in achieving goals
  • Work with senior management staff to develop and maintain a culture of collaboration, positivity, and inclusivity
  • Ensure safety procedures and inspections are in place for staff, vendors, and others in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations
  • Work with senior management to ensure re-certifications and compliance with county health codes, OSHA, and other outside agencies for entire store
  • Oversee consistent scheduling and discipline of bargaining unit employees in adherence to the collective bargaining agreement
  • Provide leadership in emergency/accident situations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Five or more years of experience in retail management (experience managing in a union environment, background in natural foods and cooperative business model, preferred)
  • Proven success working collaboratively and effectively delegating responsibility in a team environment
  • Proven success meeting triple bottom line goals in a grocery retail environment (people, planet, profit)
  • Ability to plan, develop, implement, and manage effective budgets, systems, procedures, and policies
  • Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, and sales control systems; ability to plan, develop and implement efficient and productive systems
  • Approaches all decision making with environmental and social impact in mind, actively seek ways to improve sustainability efforts in day-to-day duties, and assist in implementing applicable sustainability initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to communicate effectively
  • Must be able to work independently and collaboratively in a highly professional manner
  • Ability to think strategically as well as tactically, planning for the long-term needs while keeping near-term projects on track
  • Proven ability to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Ability to work closely and cooperatively with others
  • Ability to motivate, inspire and develop staff
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, including organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
  • Excellent computer skills – proficient experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

 

Fast paced retail floor and kitchens. Work near moving mechanical parts (i.e. coffee/juice machines, ovens, slicers, mixers, etc.) and in cold/hot climate conditions (i.e. cooler or near stove). Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to computers, paging, telephones, human voices, and machinery.

POSITION TYPE & EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

 

This is a full-time, exempt position. Days of work are typically Monday through Friday. Night and weekend work may be required as necessary to meet business needs.
