POSITION SUMMARY
As part of the Community Engagement team, the Adult Sexuality Educator (ASE) plays an integral role in the implementation of PPGNY’s SRH education among underserved adults in NYC and Nassau County. The ASE builds and maintains partnerships with community leaders and organizations; prepares, and facilitates SRH curriculum; takes steps towards the iteration of workshops and processes consistent with the needs of the community, serves as a resource person for community members and other health professionals to bridge the gap between patients and the health care system, becomes involved with other PPGNY teams and programs to drive our mission and performs duties that support the goals and objectives of the Community Engagement team.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Education and Outreach (40%)
· Successful completion of training provided by PPGNY on various sexual and reproductive health issues, outreach, and facilitation skills. Additionally, the educator will attend professional development training sessions as requested by the Community Engagement Manager.
· Prepare and facilitate sexual and reproductive health workshops for underserved adults including uninsured or underinsured, immigrants, currently and formerly incarcerated folks, survivors of intimate partner violence, people with disabilities, older adults, and people who live below or just over the federal poverty line. as well as staff from other CBOs and other participants solo or with other Community Engagement and Education & Training department staff at various community venues such as Consulates, schools, salons, detention centers, etc.
· Conduct outreach and foster partnerships with local community-based organizations, leaders, and businesses in NYC and Nassau County. This includes attending community coalition and action board meetings and other events when required.
· Work collaboratively with staff from the Equity & Engagement Department and maintain high standards of professionalism.
· Represent the team at selected internal and external meetings, and consortiums.
· Work effectively with volunteers, trainees, and other agency personnel

Client and Patient Navigation (20%)
· Assist clients in making appointments to PPGNY centers and/or Mobile Health Center as appropriate; make general referrals for program participants to health and social services as needed.
· Promote and provide referrals to PPGNY’s educational and advocacy programs.
· Partners with PPGNY health center staff to develop waiting room outreach and educational activities.

Program and Office Support (28%)
· Assist with outreach, group education planning and scheduling, as well as collaborate with other Community Engagement and Education & Training team staff on outreach events, community meetings, and workshops, as scheduled.
· Assists with basic administrative duties. This may include preparing materials for workshops and outreach events, filing, setting up and breaking down special events, etc.
· Completes outreach and education data collection and reporting in a timely manner and as indicated by the Community Engagement Manager.

Special Projects (10%)
· Performs other educational and experience related duties or projects as outlined by the Community Engagement and Education & Training department’s annual Operating Plan or as outlined in grants.

Human Resources (2%)
· Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have applicable experience and demonstrated ability to effectively work with adults in targeted communities.
  • Have an understanding of the individual and systemic barriers that low income and diverse communities face in accessing sexual and reproductive health care and talking about sexuality
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook, and virtual communication platforms (Zoom, Teams).
  • A demonstrated commitment to PPGNY’s mission related to bodily autonomy, health equity, and gender and racial justice.
  • Experience in public speaking and/or facilitating workshops/presentations.
  • Ability to work a flexible or extended schedule, including evenings and weekends, as operational demands require.
  • Ability to travel through New York City and occasionally in Nassau County via public transportation or own vehicle.


  • PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong facilitation skills.
  • Familiarity or knowledge of terminology and concepts related to sexual and reproductive health.
  • Knowledge or proficiency in Spanish or other additional languages/dialects is a plus.


  • REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
  • Must be outgoing, a good listener, compassionate, self-motivated, reliable, and open to opinions, values, and experiences that may be different from their own without being judgmental.
  • Have strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills.
  • At least one (1) years of experience delivering education or training to adults in community settings.
  • Evenings, weekends availability and travel around NYC and occasionally Nassau County is required.
  • Microsoft Suite, and other computer skills required.


  • PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • This job operates in a professional office environment/clinical office setting. Potential exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions in a health center environment.
  • Requires sitting for long periods of time. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting of up to 15 pounds. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others.
  • Requires prolonged sitting and repetitive tasks including use of a computer. Periodic standing, walking, bending. Requires lifting or moving of up to 25 pounds of programming or event materials. Must be able to occasionally walk up and down stairs. Visual acuity sufficient to perform frequent work on a computer screen and review printed reports and other materials. Requires the ability to hear and to communicate orally with others. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets, and will require reaching, grasping, pushing, and pulling.
