Job Summary

The EHS Advisor is responsible for leading and supporting environmental health and safety (EHS) initiatives within a designated Area of Responsibility (AOR). This role serves as the primary resource for operations managers, line managers, and employees to promote a hazard-free workplace through proactive risk analysis, regulatory compliance, and workforce awareness. The EHS Advisor plays a key role in implementing AFL’s EHS programs and driving continuous improvement in safety performance.

Up to 50% Overnight Travel for this role.

 

Responsibilities

Leadership & Engagement
Know your team and ensure they know you… build trust and visibility.

Promote AFL’s core values and EHS goals across the organization.

Risk Recognition & Mitigation
Identify and highlight EHS risks; help teams mitigate them effectively.
Support job planning and problem-solving to reduce risk exposure.
Communicate expected behaviors and correct unsafe behaviors or conditions in real-time, emphasizing face-to-face interactions.
Use data to help teams understand performance, identify improvement opportunities, and apply lessons learned from incidents.

Training & Compliance
Ensure all AFL employees receive required EHS training, including New Hire Orientation, Annual, and Remedial programs.
Track training progress and maintain accurate records.
Interpret and implement federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
Maintain EHS documentation and records in accordance with company practices.

Incident Management & Investigations
Assist in investigating accidents, near-misses, hazard reports, and employee concerns.
Identify root causes and trends, recommend mitigation strategies, and ensure proper documentation and follow-up.
Audit corrective actions for completeness and effectiveness.
Recommend accident prevention methods and improvements.

Assurance & Auditing
Conduct independent inspections and audits... inspect what you expect.
Use existing policies, procedures, and sound practices as guides.
Treat inspections and audits as learning opportunities to prevent incidents.

Program Development & Collaboration
Collaborate with US Services Team Members to develop procedures, policies, and training materials for a centralized EHS program.
Communicate and deploy AFL EHS initiatives within the AOR.
Evaluate and recommend improvements for hazard-specific tasks and functions.
Manage OSHA 300 logs for the AOR.
Act as liaison between employees, management, and Workers Compensation coordinator during injury and illness cases.

Hazard Assessment
Perform and review Job/Area Hazard Assessments, safe work practices, and pre-task documentation.

Administrative Duties
Perform other duties as assigned, including administrative tasks and special projects.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-related field or 3–5 years of operational EHS experience.
Knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, EPA, NIOSH standards and industry best practices.
Experience in incident management, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
Proficient in hazard recognition and mitigation.
Skilled in developing and delivering training (in-person and virtual).
Proficient in EHS Management Systems and MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio).


Working Conditions
Work may occur in indoor and outdoor environments.
Up to 75% travel required based on AOR needs and projects.
Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Ability to work extended hours as needed, especially during emergencies.
