This position assists the Controller in preparing the University Financial statements, tax returns, and Government surveys and reports. General Ledger accounts are reconciled and analyzed for the purpose of presenting relevant financial information about the University. The information provided is key for the administration of the University and for use by the independent auditors as they conduct their annual audit.
Job Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review Journal Entries, as well as approve Journal entries prepared by others, for entry into the General Ledger System.
- Analyze various General Ledger accounts for reconciliation and variance analysis purposes.
- Reconcile General Ledger to data provided by other departments, such as Endowment Gifts and Pledges Receivable.
- Reconcile and update Endowment database for gifts received from donors.
- Prepare the University and University Housing Project (UHP) tax returns (Form 990, 990-T), as well as the return for Copper Beech Condominium Association (Form 1120-H).
- Complete sections of the Moody's annual report by gathering information from the audited financial statements, and associated schedules and analysis.
- Complete the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) report and provide information for the completion of the Middle States report needed to be submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.
- Prepare analysis and computations of the University's Indirect Cost analysis for submission to the Department of Health and Human Services.
- Supervises work of others, including planning, assigning, scheduling and reviewing work, ensuring quality standards.
- Is responsible for hiring, terminating, training and developing, reviewing performance and administering corrective action for staff or makes recommendations that are usually accepted.
- Plans organizational structure and job content.
Job Skills & Knowledge:
- Ability to analyze General Ledger accounts and capable of recognizing how the transaction impacts the financial statements. Analyze financial statement variances and provide explanation of major fluctuations.
- Ensure to adhere to processes and procedures as tasks are performed for financial statement and tax preparation.
- Time management is very critical with is position as various items tend to have similar deadlines.
- Possess knowledge of the Banner finance system and be able to adapt to learning how to work with other Banner modules (such as Endowments and Fixed Assets).
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite programs, especially Word and Excel.
- Able to effectively correspond with Auditors, Advancement, Associate Treasurer, Student Accounts, Financial Aid, IT department and other departments/employees by e-mail and telephone.
Education & Job Experience:
- CPA or MBA preferred.
- 2-5 years of financial/management experience.
- Undergraduate in Accounting.
