INNOVIM Defense Services is seeking a Junior Systems Administrator to join our team supporting the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) program at the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Our team designs and develops Enterprise IT and Mission Operations Technology solutions. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to provide high impact, creative solutions to complex technical problems, the ability to work as part of a large team, and the ability to provide critical support and independent review of the work of teammates.

The candidate will:

  • Perform system administration duties on Defensive Cyber Operations (DCO) suite of applications.
  • Support systems engineering, maintenance, and operations of cyber capabilities
  • Assist in troubleshooting of hardware, software, and capability of the DCO suite of applications.
  • Conduct functional and connectivity testing to ensure continuing operability.
  • Comply with organization systems administration standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain baseline system security according to organizational policies.
  • Manage accounts, network rights, and access to systems and equipment.
  • Manage system/server resources including performance, capacity, availability, serviceability, and recoverability.
  • Monitor and maintain system/server configuration.
  • Perform repairs on faulty system/server hardware.
  • Troubleshoot hardware/software interface and interoperability problems.
  • Install, update, and troubleshoot systems/servers.
  • Patch network vulnerabilities to ensure information is safeguarded against outside parties.

  • Knowledge of virtualization technologies and virtual machine development and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of organizational information technology (IT) user security policies (e.g., account creation, password rules, access control).
  • Knowledge of basic system administration, network, and operating system hardening techniques.
  • Knowledge of national and international laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of specific operational impacts of cybersecurity lapses.
  • Knowledge of common network tools (e.g., ping, traceroute, nslookup).
  • Knowledge of cloud computing service models Software as a Service (SaaS), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Knowledge of cloud computing deployment models in private, public, and hybrid environments and the difference between on-premises and off-premises environments.
  • Be willing to support troubleshooting for shift workers in a 24x7 operational environment and respond quickly to emergencies as needed.
  • Be willing to support a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Be able to multi-task and prioritize various projects and assignments in a dynamic work environment to meet scheduled/ unscheduled customer requests.

Basic Requirements:

  • Must have 2, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience
    • May be reduced with completion of advanced education
  • Must have 6 months, or more, of directly related experience
  • Must have a DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II certification with Continuing Education (CE) - (CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP)
  • Must have, or obtain, an active DoD 8570.01-M CSSP Infrastructure Support certification with Continuing Education (CE)
    • (CEH, CySA+, GICSP, SSCP, CHFI, CFR, Cloud+, CND)
  • Must have an active DoD Secret Security Clearance
  • Must be able to obtain an active DoD Top Secret Security Clearance


Desired Requirements:

  • Have experience with Linux system administration in a DoD environment
  • Have Security Information & Event Management (SIEM) experience
  • Have experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana) is highly desirable.
  • Have Server Management experience, including deployment, backups, snapshots


This position is expected to pay $ 90,000 - $ 115,000 annually; depending on experience, education, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
