About the Department

The Recruitment & Outreach Specialist is responsible for the daily operations of a comprehensive student recruitment and outreach program at Green River College. This position provides accurate information about the college enrollment process, academic programs, financial resources, and campus services, while promoting a culture of educational access and development.
This position fosters strong relationships with school districts, community organizations, and industry partners. Operating within a collaborative departmental model, this role focuses on relationship-building, lead generation and follow-up, and coordination with campus and community stakeholders to support the conversion of prospective students into enrolled students.

This position leads efforts in two primary areas:

  1. Recruitment & Outreach Events - Coordinates and implements student recruitment and outreach events on the main campus and supports branch campuses as needed. This includes building collaborative partnerships and designing inclusive, equity-focused programming for local and regional communities. The position also delivers presentations and engages with prospective students both virtually and in person.
  2. Social Media Strategy and Content – Develops and manages social media content for the department in close collaboration with campus partners. Messaging will align with the College’s core values, enrollment goals, and the unique needs of each prospective student population. 

This position requires reliable transportation and the ability to travel within a 50-mile radius of GRC’s main Auburn Campus for in-person events, including evenings and weekends as needed.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE:

Green River College's student body is made up of approximately 41% Academic Transfer students, 34% Professional-Technical students, 15% Adult Basic Education student, and 3% Applied Bachelor degrees.  Green River College has four campuses, including the main campus in Auburn, Washington, with satellite campuses in Kent, downtown Auburn, and Enumclaw.  Green River programs serve high school graduates, Running Start students (dual enrollment in local high schools and the college), those seeking retraining for the workforce, international students, students learning English, and Continuing Education students. Green River's service areas are increasingly ethnically diverse, comprising African Americans, African immigrants, Asian Americans, Asians, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and Middle Eastern Americans, among other communities.

Position Duties

Recruitment and Outreach Responsibilities: 

  • Represent Green River College in a positive and professional manner with a student-centered approach
  • Actively promote Green River College through planned recruitment and outreach events, activities, and impromptu community interactions
  • In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Recruitment & Outreach, cultivate and steward partnerships with school districts and community-based organizations to promote a college-going culture, with a strong emphasis on engaging underrepresented and underserved student populations
  • Plan, organize, and implement interactive events, campus visitations, presentations, and workshops for various audiences on and off campus
  • Collaborate with the College’s marketing team to establish and lead the department’s social media strategy from the ground up – creating and managing content that promotes the college, highlights departmental initiatives, and provides prospective students with valuable guidance on college preparation
  • Assist with scheduling and participating in college information sessions, booths, and tabling opportunities on campus, at high schools, and throughout the community to promote Green River College and higher education in general
  • Proactively build and sustain partnerships with campus departments and external organizations to expand recruitment efforts, increase outreach visibility, and support shared goals for student engagement and enrollment growth
  • Assist with the strategic utilization of the College’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to support the conversion of prospective students to enrolled students, includes responding to inquiries via email and phone
  • Use database and spreadsheet tools to collect, organize, and analyze recruitment metrics on a weekly basis; prepare and submit standardized reports to department leadership with insights and trends
  • Maintain familiarity with all college policies and procedures, especially those related to enrollment functions and FERPA; exercise independent judgment in resolving issues related to policies and procedures
  • Assist with training student workers and other staff involved in recruitment and outreach efforts (e.g., tour guides, event volunteers)
  • Coordinate marketing efforts in collaboration with the College’s marketing team and other relevant stakeholders
  • Serve on pertinent campus committees
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree and relevant work or volunteer experience
  • Demonstrated cultural competence working with diverse populations including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, ability, age, sexual orientation, and socio-economic status
  • Strong interpersonal skills including verbal and nonverbal communication, conflict management, teamwork, creativity, empathy, listening, and a positive attitude
  • Experience coordinating and facilitating small or large group events or workshops
  • Demonstrated ability to positively adapt and respond to changing situations
  • Desire and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Willingness and ability to travel within 50 miles of GRC’s main Auburn campus, and to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Demonstrated experience managing and creating content for professional social media platforms (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) to engage target audiences and support outreach or recruitment efforts
  • Strong technical abilities with computers, software applications, and the full Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with data tracking, analysis, reporting and/or use of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Ability to speak a language in addition to English (Spanish, Dari, Somali, Punjabi, Arabic or Ukrainian preferred)
  • Professional experience in recruitment and/or outreach (in higher education or another industry)
  • Experience working within K-12 schools, nonprofit organizations, or community-based organizations serving underrepresented and underserved populations
  • Professional experience within the Washington Community and Technical College system
  • Professional experience with data tracking, analysis, reporting and/or use of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS, LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation with proof of automotive insurance
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to travel locally, usually within 50 miles of GRC’s main Auburn campus
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to regularly lift 25lbs, and occasionally up to 50lbs
  • Must have the ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk/computer workstation
  • Frequent repetitive arm, hand, and finger motions
  • Frequent use of computer and exposure to terminal screen in performing work assignments
