Position Summary:


Responsible for coordinating new and existing outreach opportunities, educational programs and events. Seeks out new opportunities for the promotion of the organization, animals, and services at on-site and off-site locations and community events.  Supports the Community Engagement team’s programs and activities. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Identifies, seeks out, plans, establishes, and coordinates with an emphasis on Foster, Transfer, KEPPT and Volunteer departments for events to reach the community to promote the organization’s programs and services

  • Organizes all aspects of outreach and education planning, including scheduling, registration, facility needs, coordination of marketing and outreach, event volunteer staffing and on-site event management, and problem solving

  • Manages all aspects of animal care and transportation of animals to and from events

  • Conducts research, makes site visits, and finds resources for outreach opportunities

  • Tracks annual outreach goals, objectives, and strategy

  • Serves as liaison to event organizers and community business/organizational partners on outreach-related matters

  • Coordinates with team member and volunteer event attendance

  • Prepares proposals, budgets and progress reports for outreach activities, educational activities and programs as needed

  • Manages appointments and site visits

  • Manages outreach scheduling, event calendar and inter-departmental communication pertaining to adoption events, outreach, and educational activities.

  • Conducts post-event analysis and follow-up, including updating event results

  • Maintains up-to-date SOPs and other materials for outreach and education programs

  • Responsible for all merchandise associated with outreach

  • Provide responsive, meaningful and compassionate service to all guests

  • Other duties as assigned


Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in marketing, public relations, or a related field

  • At least one year of experience coordinating or assisting with special events

  • Equivalent combination of formal education and appropriate related experience may be considered.


License & Certification Requirements:  


For the purpose of driving, the incumbent must be at least 21 years of age, and possess and maintain a valid Class C Nevada Driver License.  Incumbents under age 25 must possess and maintain a clean driving record, and be licensed for at least three years prior.  If over age 25, must possess and maintain a safe driving record that will allow for acceptable insurance risk to the Foundation.


Required Knowledge and Skills:


Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of event planning

  • Principles and practices of guest service

  • Standard office administrative practices and procedures, including record-keeping systems and the operation of office equipment, computers, and associated software

  • Techniques for dealing effectively with the public, in person and over the phone

  • Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation


Skill in:

  • Gathering and compiling information; preparing accurate reports and summaries

  • Maintaining timely and complete records of activities and results

  • Working confidently with the public and a wide variety of internal departments

  • Building and maintaining effective working relationships with community organizations and agencies

  • Use of business software, including Microsoft Office, and associated computer hardware

  • Communicating effectively in oral and written forms, including writing, proofreading, and public speaking

  • Working without close supervision in standard work situations

  • Managing multiple projects concurrently

  • Contributing effectively to the accomplishment of team or work unit goals, objectives and activities

  • Communicating, relating and interacting with a variety of individuals from various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone, often where relations may be confrontational or strained


Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

Physical ability and mobility to work in a typical office environment.  Strength to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 10 pounds frequently, 25 pounds occasionally.  Stamina to sit and work with computer for an extended period of time.  Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.  Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.


Team Members are continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, pet dander, peanut butter, cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and occasional work outdoors for extended periods of time while exposed to cold and extremely hot temperatures.
