Job Summary:


The Steward/Dishwasher is primarily responsible for washing dishes, utensils, pots and pans and other wares used in food production and service, properly storing them after cleanings. Also responsible for maintaining cleanliness, sanitation and sense of organization in kitchen and dumpster areas.



Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain clean and sanitary conditions in employee changing rooms, restrooms, back-of-the-house employee areas, elevator, dumpster, and receiving area
  • Empty trash cans from dish room, kitchen, and storeroom into appropriate refuge receptacles regularly, ensuring proper recycling
  • Remove empty boxes from kitchen and storage areas to the dumpster regularly
  • Keep equipment, floors, and work areas clean, free of slip, trip, and fall hazards, and ensure they are in good working order
  • Clean and sanitize all dishes, pots, pans, and utensils according to local guidelines to maintain sufficient supply levels for the Food & Beverage Department
  • Assist in storing grocery and supply items
  • Set up and operate dish machines, three-compartment sinks, garbage disposers, and chemical dispensing systems, notifying supervisors of malfunctions
  • Ensure dish machine supplies are stocked and notify supervisors when supplies are low
  • Assist cooks and the Executive Chef in food preparation as needed
  • Set up and break down buffet tables and theme decorations, including ice displays
  • Perform special projects or other assigned duties


Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain clean and sanitary working environments
  • Knowledge of proper waste disposal and recycling procedures
  • Ability to identify and remove slip, trip, and fall hazards to maintain safe work areas
  • Proficiency in cleaning and sanitizing kitchen tools and equipment according to local health guidelines
  • Basic knowledge of operating dish machines, sinks, garbage disposers, and chemical dispensing systems
  • Attention to detail in monitoring supply levels and ensuring adequate stock for kitchen operations
  • Ability to assist in food preparation and handle set-up/breakdown of buffet tables and decorations
  • Communication skills to notify supervisors of equipment malfunctions or supply shortages


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent education


Physical Requirements:

  • Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
  • Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
  • Frequent repetitive motions.
  • Continuous standing and walking.
