Equinox Gold is engaged in the exploration and development of the Valentine Gold Mine (VGM) located in the central region of Newfoundland and Labrador.  Once in production, it will be the largest gold mine in Atlantic Canada and a major employer in the province.  Equinox Gold is a public corporation (TSX:EQX) headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia with a regional office located in Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.

Equinox VGM is currently inviting applications for an Exploration Geology Student  to join our growing team as the company transitions from mine construction to mine operations.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Exploration Supervisor, the Exploration Geology Student will be a part of a number of active field programs, including geological and geotechnical core logging, oriented core, prospecting, trenching, and core cutting. They will be responsible for sample collection and ensuring adherence to the company’s quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) program.

 

This position is located at the Project site, working on a 14 days in/14 days out rotation.

Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Participating in field work collecting, analyzing, and documenting rock grab, channel and till samples.
  • Assisting with geological drill core logging and sampling.
  • Conducting geotechnical drill core logging and core orientation.
  • Surveying proposed drill targets, final drill hole locations, trench outlines and sample locations.
  • Geological mapping.
  • Data compilation and interpretation.
  • Assisting with additional geoscientific data collection as required.
  • Actively participating in daily toolbox talks.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Currently enrolled in, or previously completed, a Bachelor of Science degree program in Earth Sciences or a related field, or a similar/related program..
  • Experience in a remote construction or operational setting with shift/rotations is an asset.
  • Experience in a Mining or similar industrial setting is considered an asset.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Team-oriented but individually driven to produce results.
  • Competent with Microsoft Office and data management software.
  • Good navigation skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude in maintaining field equipment is an asset.
  • The ability to manage heavy physical work, which is defined as maximal lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 55lbs.
  • Valid driver’s license and a driver’s abstract.
