Global Nuclear Fuels, part of GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy, is an industry leader for commercial nuclear fuel manufacturing. We are seeking a Manufacturing Shift Operations for our Bundle Assembly team. This team is responsible for final assembly of nuclear fuel bundles for use in commercial nuclear power plants. This position will support approximately 15 employees on 1st shift. Typical working hours are expected to be 7AM – 3PM, but you must be available as needed to support the team.

In this role, you will embrace and manage the resources and workforce related to production tasks. Acting as a hands-on leader with your team, you will be responsible for shift safety, procedure compliance, product quality, efficient product manufacturing, and positive team member engagement. Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide oversight and management of front-line manufacturing employees.
  • Select, train, develop, and provide ongoing leadership and direction of assigned personnel to ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources, and support to assure safe and compliant manufacturing practices in a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Be responsible for meeting the shift's strict EHS requirements, product quality requirements, and production schedule requirements.
  • Continually broaden your own knowledge of technical disciplines, including Lean Manufacturing principles, to better execute policy and strategy to support overall business goals.
  • Assure operation planning - provides direction to support needs of production area, including work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training.
  • Support, encourage and facilitate Human Performance principles. Engrain in the team use of HU tools as it relates to safety and quality.
  • Focus team on constantly seeking opportunity for improvement.
  • Support as necessary manufacturing engineering, supporting functions, and manufacturing leadership to provide technical, quality, and production leadership.
  • Identify, effectively communicate, and own to resolution issues that may arise.
  • Communicate business goals, programs, and processes to team members and ensure that they are included as a part of the overall success of the organization.
  • Develop and support the growth of all team members by promoting team engagement, ownership, and continuous training.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college/university (or verified equivalent) plus one (1) year of leadership experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, operations, military, or other related technical field.

OR

  • Associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university (or verified equivalent) plus three (3) years of leadership or technical experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, operations, military, or other related technical field.

OR

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent) plus five (5) years of experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, operations, military, or other related technical field with at least 1 year of experience in a leadership position.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Ability and willingness to cover off-shifts and weekends as needed. Regular shift assignment will be day shift (7am shift start), Monday – Friday.
  • Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times during the day.
  • Ability to move around and under manufacturing equipment.

Desired Characteristics

  • At least one (1) year of nuclear plant operations or services experience.
  • BS/BA in a technical field, preferably nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a digital field.
  • Experience working in Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or other highly regulated environment.
  • Strong techniques to ensure the team performs to high standards of procedural compliance.
  • Ability to interpret engineering documentation, such as P & IDs.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to resolve daily urgent issues at the same time as working on continuous improvement projects.
  • Practical experience with identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes based on Lean.
  • Experience in training and positively influencing teams of workers who are used to traditional batch processing environments during implementation of Lean changes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proven ability to create real and positive change. Proactively identify and provide practical options to manage and mitigate risks.
  • Actively participates and leads efforts to solve problems.
  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook).
  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification. Experience implementing Lean manufacturing concepts and tools. 
  • GE Program graduate, e.g., OMLP, EEDP (GE employees only).

The base pay range for this position is $85-100,000. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate's experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity.
