Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (AWS)

Clerk Grade: 9/10

Salary Range: $129,464 - $142,665 plus superannuation and leave loading

Employment Type: Full-Time, Ongoing

Location: Sydney - Hybrid opportunity. In-office requirement 2-3 days a week as a minimum, which could be subject to change based on applicable DCS workplace policies.

As a Senior CloudOps Engineer within our growing CloudOps team, you'll play an essential role in maintaining and optimising our multi-cloud infrastructure across the Azure platform. You'll be responsible for implementing infrastructure as code, building automation solutions, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our cloud services through proactive monitoring and incident response. This position offers the perfect balance of operational responsibility and technical growth, with opportunities to contribute to architectural decisions while developing expertise in modern cloud practices.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with both platform engineers and fellow CloudOps team members to troubleshoot complex issues, participate in the on-call rotation, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. You'll have the chance to implement SRE principles in a dynamic environment, balancing system reliability with the pace of innovation. About the team:

 As a member of the CloudOps team where you'll help define operational best practices for our multi-cloud environment while working alongside passionate cloud specialists. This role offers unique growth opportunities to shape the future of our cloud operations while developing expertise across a large Azure platform in a collaborative team committed to technical excellence.

 Your day-to-day:

  • Implement and enhance automation solutions that transform repetitive operational tasks into code, creating scalable processes that drive both reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate on the development of observability frameworks that provide real-time insights into our cloud environment, enabling data-driven operational decisions.
  • Partner with platform engineers to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, contributing valuable operational perspectives to architectural improvements.
  • Drive incident response activities during on-call rotations, applying systematic problem-solving approaches to minimise service disruptions.
  • Contribute to the evolution of our infrastructure as code repositories, ensuring our cloud environment remains maintainable, secure, and aligned with best practices.
  • Mentor junior team members on cloud technologies and operational methodologies, helping build a knowledge-sharing culture within our growing CloudOps team.

To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

  • Practical experience with Azure cloud services, particularly in areas such as compute, networking, storage, and identity management.
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or ARM templates, with demonstrated ability to maintain and troubleshoot existing deployments.
  • Experience with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, New Relic,
  • Grafana, or cloud-native monitoring solutions.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control systems, demonstrating an understanding of modern deployment practices.
  • Previous participation in on-call rotations with a track record of effectively triaging and resolving infrastructure incidents under pressure.
  • Understanding of containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and how they integrate with cloud infrastructure in production environments.
