Location: Dunkerque / North France (home-based with travel required)

What we’re looking for

As a Marine Surveyor with Lloyd’s Register, you will join our small and experienced team in North France, supporting clients across the marine industry. You will carry out surveys on ships in service as well as material, equipment, and component activities. This is a client-facing role where you’ll apply your technical knowledge to ensure safety and compliance, while building trusted relationships with our clients.

We are seeking a candidate with French or European nationality, ideally with experience in in-service surveys, materials, or new construction, and preferably with exposure to another classification society.

What we offer you

  • The opportunity to work for an organisation with a strong sense of purpose and values, committed to safety and sustainability.

  • A full-time permanent role with a competitive salary

  • Significant travel within the Dunkerque area, with occasional mobility to Paris and for training.

  • Support for professional growth and continuous learning.

  • A chance to join a small, collaborative team where independence and flexibility are valued.

The role

  • Conduct surveys and assessments on ships in service, as well as on marine materials, equipment, and components.

  • Produce deliverables to agreed time, budget, and quality standards.

  • Present and discuss findings with clients, proposing solutions where appropriate.

  • Ensure all work complies with LR procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.

  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and technologies.

  • Contribute to effective knowledge transfer and support colleagues where appropriate.

  • Demonstrate a proactive commitment to health and safety in all activities.

What you bring

  • A degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Marine Engineering, or equivalent from a recognised institution; or relevant sea-going experience as a certificated ship’s engineer officer.

  • At least 1 year of relevant industry experience (graduates with strong academic background and initial experience will be considered).

  • Experience in in-service surveys, material and component inspections, or new construction.

  • Knowledge of classification society processes is an advantage.

  • Fluency in English; knowledge of French is highly desirable.

  • A valid European driving licence.

  • Willingness and ability to travel frequently within the Dunkerque area and occasionally further afield.

You are someone who

  • Can work independently and flexibly, while being part of a close-knit team.

  • Takes accountability and ownership for delivering client needs.

  • Communicates effectively, both technically and simply, across different stakeholders.

  • Solves problems, makes timely decisions, and shows initiative.

  • Demonstrates professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to safety.

If this sounds like the right opportunity for you, we would love to hear from you.
