The NFL Players Association’s newly established Strategy and Data Analytics Department is seeking a dynamic and skilled Data Scientist to play a pivotal role in transforming raw data into actionable insights. This position will involve manipulating, statistically analyzing, and visualizing data to  uncover trends, identify opportunities, and optimize processes for our player membership. The ideal candidate will possess a unique combination of analytical expertise, technical proficiency, and strong communication skills to effectively translate complex data into meaningful insights that drive strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities and Job Duties: 

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of our player membership, their priorities, and key issues.
  • Use data to identify opportunities for improving processes and outcomes for players.
  • Conduct thorough research, formulate hypotheses, and perform advanced statistical analyses to uncover trends, patterns, and correlations in complex datasets.
  • Develop predictive models and machine learning algorithms to support proactive decision-making.
  • Create interactive and visually compelling dashboards using tools like Power BI to communicate findings effectively.
  • Simplify complex concepts for stakeholders at various levels, presenting technical solutions in a way that matches the audience’s understanding.
  • Collect, clean, and validate data from multiple sources to ensure accuracy, consistency, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement data collection systems and strategies that improve statistical efficiency and data quality. 
  • Partner with various departments to identify analytical needs and provide actionable solutions.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in Computer Science or a related field).
  • Proficiency in statistical techniques (e.g., regression analysis, clustering, classification, data mining).
  • Experience with data cleaning, validation, and ensuring the integrity of datasets.
  • Proven ability to identify trends, develop hypotheses, and derive actionable insights.
  • Strong quantitative skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating data visualizations and dashboards for non-technical audiences.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex concepts into clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Power BI or similar visualization platforms.
  • Familiarity with advanced programming languages and tools such as Python, R, or SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Familiarity with issues related to professional sports organizations, players’ unions, or similar membership-based entities.
