ABOUT THE ROLE
 
We are seeking a vigilant, professional, and a dependable Security Officer to join our team. As a Security Officer at Northumbria University, you will play a key role in protecting & supporting students, staff, visitors, and university property. This role is ideal for individuals with strong attention to detail, excellent situational awareness, excellent customer service skills and being able to remain calm presence under pressure. This is more than just a security role — you’ll be a visible point of contact for students and staff, helping to foster a secure, supportive, and respectful campus community.

ABOUT THE TEAM
Our University Security Team is a close-knit, professional group committed to creating a safe, welcoming environment where students, staff, and visitors feel supported and protected. We work collaboratively across all areas of the University, including student services, facilities & estates, faculties and local emergency responders, to respond swiftly and effectively to any situation.
 
Within the Security team, we deliver a range of services including:
  • The Use of Physical Security Measures such as Building Alarms, Fire Alarms, Access Control and CCTV
  • Provide a 24 hour, 365 days a year service & staffed control room. 
  • monitoring of and response to Fire alarms, building alarms, Intruder Alarms, Lift Alarms IT Server Room Alarms
  • Provision of a Crime Prevention Team for Target Hardening and Supporting Major and or High Profile Events​
  • A one stop out of hours call point for dealing with all emergencies
  • Provision of Uniformed and Plain Clothes Security Officers
  • Supporting pastoral care for students and staff
  • Engaging with the wider community
  • Promoting Crime awareness and preventing crime
     
ABOUT YOU
 
To be successful in the role you will have:
  • Experience in the use of & responding to critical systems including CCTV, fire response, building/intruder alarms
  • Knowledge of basic law enforcement, arrest and constraint, crowd and traffic control regulations
  • Experience in emergency situations including first aid and fire fighting
  • Knowledge of crime prevention and health and safety 
  • SIA Door Supervisor License
  • Full UK Driving License ( Manual or Auto )
