Job Description:
Schnabel Engineering is eager to supplement and expand its current service offering to our clients in need of civil and geotechnical engineering services, particularly as they relate to investigations, planning and design for the mining, waste, power and transportation sectors. Qualified candidates will be well-rounded, organized problem solvers with excellent communication skills and an interest in solving technical challenges. The Marquette, MI office of Schnabel Engineering, is seeking a full-time entry level Staff Engineer to join our growing engineering practice. We are looking for a motivated candidate with an interest in working on our nation’s critical infrastructure, a desire to develop both field and analytical skills, and a desire to be part of a strong team of geologists and engineers.

Job Responsibilities:
- Work with project teams on civil, geotechnical, geological, or mining engineering projects that involve CAD design, construction oversight, field work, data evaluation, engineering analysis and report preparation.
- Assist in planning and performing geotechnical investigations and analyses
- Assist in preparation of reports, plans, and specifications.
- Observe and log soil borings and/or rock core.
- Conduct field assignments, such as site mapping
- Observe construction and perform materials testing, when needed. Material testing could include concrete testing, soil compaction, etc.
- Assist in performing field inspections.
- Assist in performing analyses and design calculations.
- Work as a team member in the Marquette, MI office across various Schnabel offices to effectively balance workload among available resources.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geological, or Mining Engineering or equivalency
- Detailed oriented with strong analytical skill and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
- A willingness to perform a variety of assignments on short notice is valuable.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Time management and organizational skills.
- It is also beneficial to be comfortable in remote settings, with a can-do attitude, and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment and satisfy project demands;
- Desire and willingness to work outdoors and travel
- Engineer in Training with the ability to receive a Professional Engineering License within 4 years
Desired Skills/Experience:
- Familiarity with engineering field skills such as field measurement and mapping, soil sampling, and groundwater sampling;
- Geotechnical exploration experience including drilling supervision, soil logging and classification, instrumentation
- Strong computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and/or various engineering software
Other Requirements:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license as driving is an essential function of the job
- Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record and credit check
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening
The compensation range for this position is between $57,200 to $86,000. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
