About the Department


The Durango Police Department is looking for an Administrative Analyst to support the Chief of Police and command staff. In this role, you will help prepare and monitor the department’s budget, work on detailed and confidential projects, and serve as a primary point of contact for the community, providing clear and accurate information about policies and procedures.

The starting pay for this position is between $22.52 and $24.78 an hour, with opportunities for growth up to $33.79 per hour based on long-term growth and performance within the role.

Position Duties

What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Manage the Chief of Police’s schedule, appointments, and communications.
  • Receive and direct visitors, phone calls, and online inquiries to the appropriate staff.
  • Coordinate budgets with command staff, enter data in the City’s system, and assist with presentations to City administration.
  • Review and process purchase requisitions, approve purchase card transactions, and track budget allocations.
  • Prepare and maintain employment and personnel documents while supporting staff with related processes.
  • Draft, proofread, and edit reports, correspondence, and other documents, and compile statistical records as needed.
  • Assist with meeting administration by preparing agendas, taking minutes, and distributing materials.
  • Maintain and improve departmental filing and records systems for efficiency and accessibility.
  • Provide front-counter assistance by receiving applications, offering information, and addressing public requests or concerns.
  • Assist with the Citizen’s Police Academy, including scheduling, instructor coordination, application processing, and communication with participants.
  • Support command staff with special projects, presentations, and reports.
  • Use law enforcement software and internal systems to support departmental operations.

Minimum Qualifications

You Have: 

  • A high school diploma or GED equivalent, plus at least one year of post-secondary education in business administration, computer science, or a related field.
  • Three years of progressively responsible clerical or administrative experience.
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and in person.
  • Stay organized and manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Are comfortable using Microsoft Office and other software to prepare documents, reports, and records. 
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Understand basic budgeting and accounting practices to support departmental processes.
  • Build positive working relationships and show tact in challenging situations.
  • Adapt quickly to feedback and remain effective under pressure.
