JOB SUMMARY:   Provides direct support and assistance to refugees experiencing challenges in the resettlement process, including: family conflict, child safety, adjustment of status, involvement with legal system, or other factors that can impact the ability for an individual or family to attain self-sufficiency and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  1. Conducts an intake and assessment with each potential client. Reviews client documentation and determines program eligibility, provides client with in-depth orientation on program guidelines and requirements, obtains relevant consents for service; reviews client rights and responsibilities, grievance process, protected health information, and any other required program Ensures appropriate releases of information are reviewed and signed to facilitate coordination of care and support to clients between programs and agencies. 
  2. Provides intensive case management services by working in collaboration with internal and external programs providing case management and employment services to client.  Works directly with client in exploring client’s perception of problems, strengths and weaknesses; develops long- and short-term goals with clients related to individual and family safety, security, and self-sufficiency.  Coordinates referrals to appropriate resources/programs.
  3. Maintains electronic case record with required forms and documentation; completes case note recordings no later than 2 business days after each client contact. Ensures relevant forms, case plans are completed within program requirements and updated at minimum quarterly to demonstrate client progress towards goals.
  4. Provides individualized and detailed orientation, coaching and support to client in the areas identified by clients as a safety concern. Provides education to client one on one on the particular topic and impacts it has towards self-sufficiency and safety.
  1. Directly assists client to access community programs in need; advocates on behalf of client to ensure linguistic and cultural needs are considered and addressed as a part of effective intervention  and support for client. 
  1. Maintains working knowledge of U.S. Laws relevant to the effective resettlement of refugee population; provides a detailed, one-on-one review of U.S. Laws around safety and security, including but not limited to: role of the police, child abuse, domestic violence, driving, taxes, sexual harassment, prostitution, marriage and divorce, etc.
  2. Maintains up to date knowledge on local and national child welfare laws and policies. Serves as an advocate and support to families involved with the Department of Child Services (DCS). Advocates on behalf of client to ensure that DCS interventions support client linguistic needs and that client’s unique cultural background and trauma history are considered during development of appropriate interventions. May consult with the Unaccompanied Minor Program for additional child welfare support as well. 
  3. Maintains up to date knowledge on local and national domestic violence (DV)  laws and policies. Serves as an advocate and support to families experiencing domestic violence. Directly assists clients experiencing domestic violence to access local advocacy support, safety planning, shelters, orders of protection, and other supports needed. Serves as an advocate and support to DV Service providers to ensure services provided are culturally and linguistically appropriate to the needs of the client. May consult with My Sister’s Place for additional DV support as well. 
  4. Maintains up to date knowledge on eligibility for adjustment of status for refugees and refugee beneficiaries. Provides one on one education to refugee clients on the importance of adjusting status, and possible consequences of non-adjustment. Directly assists clients to access immigration services and may attend appointments to ensure interpretation is provided and client is aware of process. May assist clients to access medical providers as a part of the application process, may assist clients through any waiver processes that may require additional documentation. 
  5. Directly assists clients to access appropriate pro-bono and low fee legal service providers. Maintains an awareness of legal assistance available in the community, including immigration, criminal, and family law. May attend legal appointments with client to support client in understanding the process and requirements , collection of relevant documentation.
  1. Attend and actively participate in various coalitions and meetings  related to client safety, offers refugee specific training to community partners.
  2. Promote ongoing commitment to excellence and continual quality improvement to ensure the highest quality of services to our staff and clients. Actively seeks out and advocates for ongoing training in relation to available community resources, ethnic community based organizations; continually attends and receives training on current refugee population trends,  safety needs, and research-based service standards and delivery; continually builds and maintains cultural awareness in working with refugees.        Documents and maintains a log of all professional trainings taken on an annual basis.

  2. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Education /Background:  Minimum of a High School diploma (or equivalent) plus two (2) or more years of experience in case management field.  Bachelor’s degree in Social Work plus one year of experience in job development preferred.
  2. Job Knowledge: Must have good oral and written communication skills, must be able to relate to and coordinate with both employers and clients and must have knowledge of employment practices. Must be sensitive to cultural differences within the agency and community. Fluent in Microsoft Office Applications (Word & Outlook).
  3. Working Conditions/Physical Demands:  Must be able to work in a fast paced environment with moderate interruptions. Must be able to stoop, bend, squat, sit on floor and ambulate over uneven floor surfaces including stairs and steps. Must be able to visually and auditory assess and interact with clients to ensure their safety and wellbeing. May lift up to 25 pounds. Driving required.

  5. Valid AZ driver’s license, reliable transportation and ability to show proof of registration/insurance.
  6. You must be 21 years of age or older to drive on behalf of Catholic Charities.
  7. Level One Fingerprint clearance or ability to obtain fingerprint clearance; must maintain clearance. 
  8. Must have or complete within 90 days of hire, training in CPR and First Aid and remain current in the certification.
