Role: Data Governance Analyst

Overview

The Data Governance Analyst plays a critical role in shaping and operationalizing the enterprise-wide data governance strategy. This role ensures that data policies, standards, and processes are effectively developed, communicated, and maintained. The analyst also serves as the operational lead for the Data Governance Council (DGC), ensuring smooth coordination and execution of council activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and enhance the enterprise Data Governance Strategy, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Draft, update, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure policies are practical, enforceable, and widely adopted.
  • Gather and synthesize feedback from stakeholders across business units to inform governance enhancements.
  • Act as a liaison between data owners, stewards, Custodians and governance leadership to ensure alignment and transparency.
  • Administer DGC meetings, including scheduling, agenda confirmation, and logistics.
  • Develop and distribute the DGC presentation deck in collaboration with key contributors.
  • Capture and circulate meeting minutes, action items, and decisions.
  • Track follow-ups and ensure accountability for assigned tasks.
  • Design, develop, and maintain Data Governance training materials and onboarding content.
  • Deliver training sessions and workshops to promote data literacy and governance best practices.
  • Monitor training effectiveness and update content based on feedback and evolving needs.
  • Manage day-to-day Data Governance operations, including intake and resolution of data governance exception requests and support tickets.
  • Maintain and improve operational workflows and service-level agreements (SLAs) for governance-related inquiries.
  • Collaborate with IT and business teams to ensure timely and accurate handling of governance issues and escalations.

    Preferred skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK).
  • Experience with data management tools and platforms.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in documentation and presentation tools (e.g., PowerPoint, Confluence, SharePoint).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally.

Salary Range:

$83,100 - 141,300 USD

Salary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
