Position Overview
We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Transportation Routing Specialist to play a key role in the success of our shipping operations. This position is essential to ensuring customer compliance, timely movement of goods, and flawless execution of routing requirements. The Transportation Routing Specialist will serve as the connection point between our company, carriers, and customers, ensuring shipments are scheduled, tracked, and delivered in line with customer routing guidelines and service expectations.
Key Responsibilities
- Log into customer routing portals (Walmart, WIlliams-Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Sur La Table, Ross, Burlington, TJX, Amazon, etc.) to schedule and confirm collect freight pick-ups
- Plan and schedule prepaid shipments in the Transportation Management System (TMS), including printing Bills of Lading (BOLs) and other shipping documentation
- Monitor, track, and trace shipments, providing updates and resolving exceptions as needed
- Follow up with carriers on missed pick-ups to ensure service recovery and prevent downstream delays
- Maintain accurate shipment records and ensure all routing activities are performed in compliance with customer requirements
- Collaborate with internal teams, carriers, and customer service to resolve routing issues in a timely and professional manner
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to increase routing efficiency, carrier performance, and on-time delivery metrics
- Daily liaison with vendor transportation teams via email and phone
- Recording of documentations BOL, etc., maintained through an internal system, RV
Systems & Process Management
- Operate within multiple customer portals and TMS platforms, ensuring data accuracy and proper scheduling of shipments
- Uphold compliance with each customer’s unique routing guide and EDI/portal requirements
- Maintain shipment documentation, including BOLs, packing slips, and carrier confirmations, ensuring accuracy for audits and financial reconciliation
- Identify process gaps or recurring issues in routing workflows and provide input to strengthen operational efficiency
- Contribute to SOP creation and updates for routing and transportation activities
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Customer Service and Sales to align shipping schedules with customer expectations
- Work closely with Warehouse Operations and 3PLs to ensure shipments are staged, loaded, and ready for scheduled pick-ups
- Coordinate with Finance and Accounts Payable on freight invoicing, discrepancies, and cost recovery related to missed or rescheduled pick-ups
- Collaborate with carriers and 3PL partners to maintain strong service levels and address recurring performance issues
- Engage with Supply Chain Planning and Inventory teams to understand upcoming order flows that impact routing activity
Compensation Range: $45,000.00 - $50,232.00 per year contingent upon experience
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in business or 2+ years of experience in transportation, routing, or warehouse operations (retail compliance or customer routing portal experience highly preferred)
- Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and shipment tracking tools
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with carriers, customers, and internal stakeholders
- Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy in data entry and documentation
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to handle exceptions and adapt quickly to changes
- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and levels
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word); experience with ERP/WMS systems a plus
- This role is not eligible for remote or hybrid and requires on-site attendance Monday through Friday
