Salary: Range 51 - $38.37 (step one) - $48.64 (step ten) Hourly*
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Work Location: In-person/telecommute (hybrid) King County Courthouse, 5th Floor, Downtown Seattle
In-office work is required on Tuesdays, along with one additional day each week.
Along with the Special Operations (Spec Ops) Project/Program Manager, this position supports the Spec Ops and Case Development DPAs and provides legal and logistical support with investigations, search warrants, privilege context, trial support, and all aspects of electronic surveillance. The paralegal in this position handles highly sensitive material, requiring special care with respect to security and discretion. The work is often time sensitive, requiring immediate attention and expeditious handling. The person selected for this position will also help cover for the Public Integrity team’s paralegal as needed.
Position Duties
- Review and proof specialized documents to ensure that the format and logistical details are correct and consistent.
- Coordinate date and time with law enforcement and the court for judge’s review and approval of documents and ensure proper filing with the Court.
- Scan and email final documents to law enforcement, answer procedural questions and maintain a secure document directory.
- Assist in the preparation of redacted materials as well as preserve the confidentiality of the privileged discovery or investigation components.
- Prepare, generate, process, and coordinate service of legal documents, including subpoenas.
- Maintain PbK to reflect updated witness information, court dates, discovery dissemination, trial and disposition information, and any other important information required to be documented.
- Manage discovery: Organize, index, scan, Bates stamp and redact voluminous amounts of materials for dissemination that have been received in various hard and electronic formats.
- Assist prosecutors in all phases of trial preparation.
- Create trial exhibits, redact video and audio recordings, and request and monitor transcript requests.
- Serve as liaison to deputy prosecutors, victim advocates, interpreters, law enforcement officers, defense attorneys, defense investigators, court personnel, witnesses, victims, and other partner agencies.
- Notify/inform victims, witnesses, and law enforcement of case status; coordinate witness testimony; review and interpret legal documents and explain legal procedures; schedule interviews with attorneys and witnesses; and arrange travel and lodging accommodations for witnesses as needed.
- Perform related work as required.
- Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions. Provide support for Equity and Social Justice policy and principles and work with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.

- Proven ability to maintain security, confidentiality, and discretion at all times.

- Ability to handle routine emergency situations under pressure and assume unscheduled and unexpected responsibilities.
- Desire and aptitude to learn new concepts, programs, and software.
- Knowledge of legal office practices, procedures, and equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, OneNote, OneDrive), Adobe Pro; familiarity with Prosecutor by Karpel (PbK), KC Script, JABS, SAW/FORS, JBRS, PeopleMap/Accurint and other criminal justice programs is a plus.
- Knowledge of the legal system; possession of basic paralegal skills, knowledge of legal terminology and application of laws, rules, and regulations, specifically in the criminal justice system.
- Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.

* In addition to the benefits listed on the benefits tab, employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer.
