POSITION SUMMARY:  

The Nurse Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Room Department, as well as working clinical shifts.  This role ensures compliance with quality and regulatory standards, maintains a safe patient care environment, and optimizes departmental workflow. The OR Manager fosters effective collaboration with nursing, surgical, and anesthesia staff while providing leadership and support in the absence of the Director of Surgical Services. 

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS 

Education: 

  • Associates of Science in Nursing (ASN) required. 
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred but not required. 

Licensure: 

  • Active Registered Nurse license in the State of New Hampshire. 
  • Association* accredited course in Basic Life Support (BLS) (for clinical staff), or Heartsaver CPR AED (for nonclinical staff), and renewal on a regular basis, with up to a three-month grace period after the expiration date. 

Skills: 

  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to foster collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. 
  • Proven ability to lead, mentor, and motivate staff in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. 

 

Work Experience: 

  • Demonstrated expertise in Operating Room nursing, with advanced knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and protocols. 
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in perioperative services strongly preferred. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

  •  Oversee the daily workflow and operations of the OR department, including housekeeping and sterile processing. 
  • Direct and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the surgical team, including surgical case scheduling, resource allocation, and staff assignments. 
  • Manage departmental budget in collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, including payroll, expenses, and resource distribution. 
  • Assist with capital equipment planning, purchasing, and long-term budget forecasting. 
  • Ensure departmental operations comply with all applicable accreditation and regulatory standards, including CMS, AORN, and the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI). 
  • Implement quality assurance initiatives to improve patient safety and surgical outcomes. 
  • Monitor and evaluate performance metrics, ensuring continuous compliance with infection control, safety, and clinical standards 
  • Supervise nursing staff, surgical technicians, housekeeping, and sterile processing staff. 
  • In collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, manage HR functions such as interviewing, hiring, onboarding, training, and providing performance evaluations. 
  • Mentor and support professional development of less experienced staff. 
  • In collaboration with the Director of Surgical Services, manage corrective actions, disciplinary processes, and staff accountability 
  • Coordinate care with surgeons, Anesthesia Chief, CRNAs, and other department leaders to ensure seamless patient transitions throughout the perioperative process. 
  • Act as a liaison between medical staff and the nursing team to resolve workflow issues and promote collaboration. 
  • Advocate for patients by ensuring the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and satisfaction are upheld throughout their surgical experience.
