JOB SUMMARY

Under the intermittent supervision of the Director of Rural Health, the Rural Health Medical Assistant Supervisor provides general direction and oversight to all Rural Health Medical Assistants.  Tasks will include scheduling of medical assistants and performing as the super user for the electronic medical records system.  Supervisor will also be responsible for the creation and implementation of the medical assistant training and certification programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Able to perform all the Essential Functions of a CCMA.  Periodically may fill in as a CCMA when staffing levels require.

Manages and directs the day-to-day activities of the Medical Assistants at all Rural Health clinics including both Curry Medical North and Curry Family Medical.  Reviews and approves of timecards for Medical Assistants.

Hires, mentors, and trains all medical assistants according to role competencies.  Establishes, monitors, and audits medical assistant processes for clinical support and documentation requirements.  Provides supplemental training to staff thus maintaining and developing staff skills and abilities. 

Effectively and consistently communicates administrative and clinical directives to staff and leads interactive departmental weekly huddles and monthly meetings. 

Interviews candidates for vacant medical assistant positions and processes new hires including department orientation.   

Performs as the electronic medical records system super user.  May be asked to train and/or audit other medical assistants based upon documentation standards.

Other duties as assigned support the overall effectiveness of the department and organizational performance in accordance with Curry Health Network’s Mission, Vision and Shared Values.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education & Experience

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant through the National Healthcareers Association (CCMA) required; certification must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program preferred.

Six months or more Medical Assistance experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Good communication skills, both verbally and in written form.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Leadership and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel between the two Rural Health Clinics.
