Basic Function
The Ridership Development Representative plans and executes strategic sales and outreach initiatives to increase public transit usage across METRO’s service area. Focuses on building partnerships, expanding client engagement, and implementing targeted programs to drive customer adoption and retention for corporate ridership programs. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with applicable rules and safety procedures.
Responsibilities and Specific Duties
- Develops a robust pipeline of business opportunities—including RideSponsor prospects—through direct outreach, prospecting, and relationship building.
- Maintains good working relationships with existing and new clients to enhance client retention; collaborates with sales team to create new client events and ridership opportunities.
- Actively seeks sales opportunities with potential clients by conducting meetings, fairs and presentations.
- Plans and executes promotional campaigns, incentives, and challenges to encourage trial and sustained use of METRO services.
- Collaborates with internal departments to develop client-focused solutions and creative campaigns.
- Analyzes market trends and client feedback to shape sales strategies and identify innovative opportunities.
- Develops and maintains sales and market penetration tracking system (Client Relationship Management) for campaigns and activities to measure performance goals and sales activity.
- Provides recommendations for business growth based on financial and operational analyses.
- Supports the development of policies and procedures to advance ridership goals and enhance program efficiency.
- Provides excellent customer service to internal and external stakeholders.
- Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and support all aspects of the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
- Promotes safety awareness and follow safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Pay Range: $68,000 - $89,300
Education Requirement
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Public Administration, Marketing, or related field preferred.
Years & Experience Required
Minimum five (5) years of corporate sales or business development experience, including setting sales goals and managing client relationships.
Knowledge & Skills Required
- Strong strategic planning, analytical, and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.

The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas has a zero tolerance drug and alcohol policy for all employees.
