Principal Engineer - NRSWA Permit Team - Ref: EE06525
G11: £49,282 - £54,495 per annum
You will play a key role in the activities of the NRSWA team during a period of significant transformation and regeneration of the borough.
The main purpose of the job will be to support the specialist nature of the permit team to manage a range of work on the highway network. The role will place particular emphasis on:
The implementation and management of revenue and capitally funded engineering schemes
The project management and coordination of routine engineering works
The appointment, control and supervision of contractors and consultants
The implementation and management of all utility / work programmes including consideration of temporary traffic management proposals.
Oversee the street works inspection and coring programmes to ensure compliance with all NRSWA legislation, regulations, code of practice requirements and specifications.
- Lead on the day-to-day maintenance of all road marking work in the borough.
- Respond to traffic sign issues and manage a dedicated budget to deal with maintenance and / or road traffic collision issues.
This is a specialist technical role that requires a high degree of interaction with colleagues, the general public, local businesses, councillors, utility companies and Transport for the West Midlands. We are looking for a candidate with a street works qualification and experience in managing permit schemes, together with a detailed knowledge of traffic management. The post holder will have day-to-day responsibility for: -
Assisting the Permit Team Manager with respect to service delivery.
The timely investigation and response to customer enquiries and service requests.
General activities related to the roles and functions of the service.
Developing and maintaining good levels of communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibility for any delegated projects, seconded officers, students and trainees.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate relevant experience and a thorough understanding of NRSWA and traffic management together with the associated legislation. The council operates an agile working policy, giving staff a choice of their work location but there will also be a requirement to travel throughout the borough and attend meetings on site.
