The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Store Manager who upholds MoMA’s standards and adheres to and applies Museum and Retail policies and procedures to all situations and interactions; keeps current on what’s happening at MoMA to support a positive visitor experience. Assists the Store Manager with all aspects of running the store, including but not limited to opening and closing the store; ensuring proper safeguarding of MoMA’s staff, visitors, and assets; attending and contributing to Retail management meetings, and, participating in store partnership initiatives. Exhibits and upholds the highest customer service standards which will play an integral role in achieving the stores sales and metric goals. Manages, develops, and trains the staff and ensures a professional and positive presence on the sales floor by all staff and the delivery of a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and inspiring customer service experience.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Coaches, develops, and empowers Selling Specialists and Sales Associates in customer engagement, selling techniques, and client building.
  • Participates in recruitment for open Selling Specialist positions and makes hiring recommendations or decisions for staff vacancies; supervises assigned staff on daily basis, providing relevant training, feedback, guidance, professional development, etc.; ensures compliance with and comprehension of Museum policies and relevant collective bargaining agreement; manages the constructive discipline process, as warranted; conducts annual performance reviews with direct staff; etc.
  • Oversees and manages sales incentive initiatives, including monthly contests and quarterly team share initiatives.
  • Analyzes metrics/reporting with the goal of increasing overall revenue via Teamwork CRM Service and Endear CRM.
  • Initiates and coordinates strategies to maximize opportunities by increasing average transaction and conversion, such as email capture, client building, product demos, and store events.
  • Serves as liaison between store and Product Managers.
  • Organizes and facilitates training on new products for self and for sales staff.
  • Maximizes use of all selling tools e.g., signage, systems, etc.
  • Collaborates with Assistant Store Manager, Staff to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Visits the Museum regularly to stay up-to-date and knowledgeable on exhibitions, performances, rotations, etc.
  • Attends product, vendor, and customer service training as needed.
  • Participates in advanced education opportunities as offered.
  • Attends and participates in staff meetings.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three to five years in retail with at least two years in sales/retail management.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Organized and detail oriented with superb time management skills.
  • Proactive self–starter who exhibits initiative and leadership.
  • Proficiency with POS, Word, Excel, and Order Entry.

Supervises: Selling Specialists and Sales Associates

Salary:  The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.
